November 20, 20178 yr Popular Post Here are some Christmas presents I made for the relatives. The first pictures are the seven day clocks in a 7 sided polygon, the rest are in a 14 sided polygon. also included is a Peruvian walnut napkin holder. I used some different hands on some of them. Herb
November 20, 20178 yr WOW, Herb! You have been busy!! They are gorgeous! What type of jig do you use to get those tight miters?!?!
November 20, 20178 yr Beautiful Herb...They're all my favorite, but the 14 sided rose / blood wood? is gorgeous. Your wooden hinges never cease to amaze me. Clever incorporation and very personal touch within the napkin holders. Hope things go OK at the dentist!
November 20, 20178 yr They all look great herb. I like the Cedar clocks best. Relatives must all be retired like the rest of us.
November 20, 20178 yr Really nice, Herb. The 14 sided ones are exceptionally nice. Could you show us your clamping set up? What holds the napkin holder closed? And, that Peruvian walnut is gorgeous. Where did you find it?
November 20, 20178 yr I see your putting the new miter jig to use. Really, really, nice Herb. I always look forward to this time of year when you post the pictures of the X-mas presents. You have some really lucky club members.
November 20, 20178 yr Author Thanks guys, the first four are from a western cedar 2X4, the red ones are aromatic Tennessee cedar, and the purple one is a piece of Purple Heart. Bill , you are right , that MeterSet jig is getting a little use. Love that thing sure takes the thinking out of setting up miters. Gene I will post some pictures of the glue up, on the napkin holder, the hinge is stiff enough to hold up the leaf that folds down. it also can snug up against the napkins as they get used. I get the Peruvian Walnut, which is not a true walnut, more of a cherry I believe, at the hardwood supply store here locally called CrossCut Hardwoods. It is great stuff as far as machining and hand working, not as hard as American Walnut, about like Mahogany. The rich chocolate brown color is nice. Dave I get a lot of use from the Incre Hinge Jig too. Another jig I love. Bill, these are for the relatives, the woodworkers are getting a special tool I am making now, will post that soon. Herb

November 20, 20178 yr Thanks, Herb. Like those 'clamps'. I think Ace carries them. Gotta check and see if my supplier has any of that peruvian stuff. Edit: just checked. No joy. Edited November 20, 20178 yr by Gene Howe

November 21, 20178 yr Yep. That's my store. They don't have any. Pretty picture is all. I'll make a call after the holidays.
November 21, 20178 yr Nice job! I've found Titebond No Run / No Drip Glue excellent for gluing short-grain miters and even end grain. Heptagon or Septagon.
