Got a PM stating my image of the drill sergeant dressing down a recruit, with the caption "Hit the ground and push Maggot!" in response to @hatuffej last post above, was inappropriate. To me it was just good ol fashioned military humor, perhaps it may seem a bit gruff by those who have never been in that environment. But I assure you, among us who have served, we do have a warped sense of humor. Sorry if I offended anyone. I did remove the post. To the PM, thank you for bringing this to my attention.

There is also something called Remembrance Day, for the Commonwealth Services....wearing the Red Poppies from Flanders....

 

Only thing I can say...Hey, I made it back home, without too many extra holes.....

Navy boot camp, fall of 1963. Attention in ranks. No stripe seaman goofing around. Company Chief ordered him to drop and do push ups while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. He got as far as "...and to the republic... " and couldn't go on because he didn't know the rest. I don't ever remember seeing him again.

 

And no, it wasn't me- I was terrified to do anything but what I was told- remember this was the "Old" Navy.

I don't understand any offense with that but oh, well. During Basic Training, I was squad leader, then platoon guide. My Drill Sergeant, SSgt Adolph Kopff, 101st Airborne, at Ft. Lewis made me do PUs for every violation in my squad, and then the platoon along with the offender. Man! I still do around 200 every day in sets of 15-20. Again, you're welcome.

USAF, 1970 to 1994.  My career field was Weapons Control Systems, otherwise known as fire control radar, on F4 C/D.  After basic training and tech school, I went to Ubon Thailand, Eglin AFB in Florida, back to Thailand, Bentwaters UK, Luke AFB Az, Kadena AB Okinawa, Homestead AFB Florida, (got out before hurricane Andrew), and finished up and retired from McConnell AFB, Kansas, which was actually back home for me.  Interesting anecdote about my second tour in Thailand.  My buddy I volunteered for a manning assistance TDY from Eglin back to Thailand which was supposed to be a 45 day TDY.  When we got back to Thailand, we decided to request the TDY be converted to a PCS.  Our request was approved within two weeks, with a two word justification:  "Presently thereat."  Some poor guy back at Eglin had to out-process us for a PCS instead of a TDY, ship our hold baggage, etc.  Whoever that was, if by chance you are on this forum and are reading this, many thanks.
