WIFI Extenders

If you have WIFI dead zones in your house this may be a solution.

The WIFI router supplied by our internet provider isn't the most robust so, I've never been able to get a WIFI signal in the shop. Even though, the shop is only about 100' from the router.

Several different types and brands of extenders were tried and returned. Thank you Amazon. I finally happened on to this TP-LINK AV500 range extender that uses your house wiring as a transmission medium, thereby eliminating problems caused by walls, metal studs, distance, etc.

There are two components, an "adapter" that is connected to the router and plugged in to a nearby electrical socket, and the "extender", plugged in to a socket located in or near your dead zone. It's optimum if both sockets are on the same circuit. In my case, I used a socket in a wall closest to the shop. It's not on the same circuit but, it works.

Now, I have WIFI in the shop.

Thanks for the heads up Gene. Great stuff!

I have wifi in shop,  but my shop is only 10' away from the wifi. So it works great, but 100', that's a good distance, that extender seems like a great solution, great information!

Where was this type of thing 6 years ago when I needed it? I remembered the problems I had with wi-fi in my last shop (about 100' away) so for this one I ran Cat 5E to it.

Fred, I considered that. But, I'm too old to crawl that far under the house.

Nope, nearest neighbor is way to far away.

That is what password protection is for.

There is a setting within the router system itself (on mine) that allows me to lock out any device not already connected. Not prefect, nothing is, but it gives another layer of protection.

I'll add WIFI signal theft to my short list of reasons to move.

The other one is it's time to move when you can't take a leak off the back porch.

Stick's password is easy to hack. He loves to use phrases. It only took my five minutes to break in using the phrase, I HOG ALL OF THE DOUGHNUTS (all caps). :D

Amen to that, Gene.
