September 2, 20178 yr Popular Post Hitched a ride south this morning.....did a mile and a half stroll through the Tractors and all the vendors... Tractors? Tractors? This one has a log as a motor mount? There were a few engines running.. Take a good look at what that thing is sitting on.... Went past a shack that had these sitting around, that one off to the right? So, where there is sawn lumber...there must be a saw? There is a wide, web belt to the right....it hooks up to a PTO on a tractor. Saw even has dust collection.. That plywood box is hooked to a pipe that goes to a cyclone outside, then into a dump truck's bed. Bigger saw blades over by that white door. Check out the tail light? Headlight uses a single candle.... Spent one dollar for these two.....North Bros. #33H and a scratch awl....more on the plane in a bit.. $15 for this 4" x 26" mitre saw. Spine says Disston and Sons....etch says Landon/ Millers Falls.....handle needs a bit of work.. not sure what the story is here, with that off-set bolt...will find out after a clean up.....now, about that plane.. Stanley No. 4..Type 9 has two patent dates. That price tag? I paid my $8 and left.... Lunch was from the Food Row....General Tsu's Chicken on rice.....and a can of cold Mountain Dew.....cost the same as the plane... Saw quite a few tools and such, even though there were tarps all over the place. Fest goes until Monday night....Was a fun afternoon... Now I think I will just kick back and rest up...

September 3, 20178 yr Author Popular Post Rehabs of yesterday's "treasures"? That Awl didn't need much done. The North Bros. Handyman Yankee No.33H is now a nut driver. A couple drops of oil to get things moving nicely. Next, a saw.. Brass is shined up. Bolts fit the holes they are in...not sure about that extra one.. Got all that ugly ClearCoat off......shines so much.. That I can see myself. Lastly..that $8 plane.. Kind of liking that friction tape "grip"...might come in handy, with sweaty hands.. Iron has a slight "camber" that I may correct, sometime. Iron had a curve along it's length ( hammered that flat) sharpened the new bevel to just 6oo grit, for now...Bolt holding the iron to the chipbreaker was too "tall" I ground that down a bit. NOW the tab will engage the slot to set the depth. Sole was flat, needed cleaned up, is all.. Somebody's dirty thumbprint.... Has two patent dates, a small wheel ( left hand threads) and the frog adjust bolt. Anyone notice the bit of sap wood on the front handle? Might be worth that $8?

September 4, 20178 yr Looks like it was a pretty good day for you and some nice scores. I always enjoy the pictures you post of the event too. Quite a display of tractors and Hit-Miss engines...I may have to put this on my bucket list of events... Got any more pictures of that background puzzle? That's pretty cool too...only us old guys (& gals) can appreciate the nostalgia in it.
September 4, 20178 yr Author Popular Post Got a few more...both of the "background pictures" and a bit more from the Labor Day Fest... next.. Other top corner... and lastly From the Tractor Fest... Small trains.... Smaller saws? This is the smaller of the two mills.. Dust collector... Power "plant" is that tractor, back there. Needs a log loader? Works form me....... Now, about a tractor.. Front end.. back end...and.. Motor mount? Or..just sat too long? As for that saw mill... May have to wait a year or two..... I spent...$1 today, for two items... $0.50 for a pilot bit...eehhhh! And... Made in Italy....Oregon? Saw file jig? BTW... For Houston.....
September 4, 20178 yr Author West Liberty, OH. @ Lion's Park. Every labor Day weekend. Admission and parking were free. See ya next year? BTW: Camping is a $30 Donation......
September 4, 20178 yr I'm not a puzzle guy (puzzling maybe), but that one is really cool. Seeing many of the depictions brings back a lot of good memories. As for this beast...I've seen one very similar in action many a year ago...When I was in high school a guy I worked for once in a while had one only it had been converted to rubber tires. It was a real treat to drive and especially turn at the ends. His didn't have the tree stump option though. Yep, appears to be an on bar chain sharpening guide for a chain saw; pretty fancy one too.
