A couple of years ago, I was painting a number of rooms in my house.   I read an article about using an angled putty knife to cut the masking tape into the corners on trim.  I ran out to the corner hardware store and bought the basic knife and cut the top to an angle.   I found it handy for the tape but also other projects like puttying in corners, scraping, etc.   It's earned a place in my tool drawer.

I grab for mine first unless I am stripping paint.  I like the straight edge for that.

@kmealy: Sounds like a good idea.  After cutting the blade at the angle, did you have to sharpen it or do anything to the edge?

 

And now another question.  The menu bar below your post did not allow me to quote your post.  The only item on that bar was "go to top".  Why is that?

Cal, that's an anomaly on all OP's...you can quote the original post by highlighting with your cursor either a portion or all of the post. Once you do that, a small "quote" icon appears within the post.

I remember John said that this was to cut the "confusion" down a little. Generally, if you are replying to the OP, people will know that. It is when you start replying to the other posts in the thread that it gets confusing unless you can quote a particular post.

I think I just ground off the burr on a belt sander, but making a sharp edge would be a good idea for other applications.   Hmmm maybe time for a second one

A pocket knife cuts tape but I don't know if people in Cal. can carry one unless they recite proposition 69 before they whup it out?

I think a pocket knife may cause cancer in California.

 

I was talking to one vendor of woodworking supplies and they put that on every product they sell, just in case.
