Speaking of bacon...and donuts: the BEST donut I have come across is the white cream filled float (aka long john) with maple frosting and a slice of bacon on top!!! MAN! Was that GOOD!!!

Those donuts are at a place called Cracked Pepper Catering & Bakery, in Peoria.

On a sidenote: Stick better not abandon me too soon, as he just dragged me over here very recently!

Peoria? Now I understand your post about being neighbors with Glenn.

Wife and I hail from the Effingham area.

Huh, one place I missed in all my travels to Peoria...made a few visits to Alexander's Steak House and all the Avanti's locations though...

Well, hello there Effingham!

Oh, well Alexanders was only about 5 minutes south of those great gems. Only problem is that you have to be there in the morning in order to get them, whereas Alexander's is early evening.

I must admit, I much rather have a steak at Texas Roadhouse; I just think they nail it a little better. Ruby Tuesday's used to make a really lazy cow steak as I call it, lol. It was the most tender, flavorful steak you could find, but then I went in one time to order my regular and the entire menu was changed! So, good bye Ruby. Even Panera's has recently changed their menus, so I hardly go there, either.

Have you ever tried LaGondola's? I think they beat Avanti's. They are now hooked up with the local Leonardo's-too bad. But I like their pasta sauce and bread better. Haven't been there in a while, either.

Getting back to sawdust, I noticed if I lived more south or east/west, even near the Quad cities, there's all kinds of wood to be had. I can even find all kinds of used tools and appliances, further out. But in my general vicinity, it's not that great.

Cindy, we USED to live there. We've been in AZ since '75.

IDK, never had Alexanders cook one for me...always grilled my own at the open grill...usually ate too much bread while grilling the steak...

No did not...it's been ~8+ years since I've been to Peoria/East Peoria. Used to eat at Jonah's Seafood once in a while and at Basta at East Port; both excellent. They were close to Stoney Creek where I usually stayed when in E. Peoria.

Oh Gene, too bad you can't say you moved from Peoria, to Peoria! Now that would be funny!

Dave, can't blame you since there really isn't much of anything here! LOL Oh, Jonah's drastically changed their menu, as well. :-( I used to love those potatoes au gratin and their broiled seafood platter-and NO such things anymore. I used to go there once a year back in the day for a treat.

Nobody ever learns, "Don't fix it if it ain't broke!"

Stoney Creek, very nice place but right on the flood plane. I know the Famous Daves that was by it got flooded out quite a few times. LOL Not sure if SC did or not.

Speaking of food, know what I have been seriously missing/thinking about lately? The old Shakey's!!! Even the one in Springfield closed, so no more road trips with my friends for that. Closest one is in AL.
