July 26, 20178 yr You know, the frame and panel treatments on the lower part of walls. Spelled "wainscoting". How do you pronounce this word? Wayne's coat Wayne scott Wayne scut Wayne scoot Wayne's something else? Just wondering how the experts say it, or if it changes around the country/world. This pic is not my set up, yet... July 26, 20178 yr It probably depends on your part of the country. I say "wayne's coating". Have heard it pronounced "Wayne'scotting, too.

July 26, 20178 yr Wow, in my part of the country we don't even have anything that looks like that. I first thought of checking with the building code people but since they don't issue permits for anything I would probably get a blank stare.. And.. since this is a new invention from my land, you can just call it anything thats hard to pronounce......big words always will bring more money when things are for sale. Cal you could have built a brand new in this amount of time.....If you will tear down those shade trees you might pick up your speed and get er done..... We can sit around and joke later...

The woman says Wayne Scot. I have always called it "Wayne's coat", but I pulled it up on dictionary.com and it sounded like "Wayne's cut", or maybe even "Wayne's kit". http://www.dictionary.com/browse/wainscot?s=t Could just be my hearing... July 26, 20178 yr Popular Post As an Home Appraiser for 11 years, the term is "Wainscoting" which is pronounced "Wains- caught-ing" NOT "Wains- Coating". It always annoys me when I hear it pronounced incorrectly, especially on all those HGTV Shows with the various builders and designers. Edited July 26, 20178 yr by Allen Worsham

Take solace in the fact that's only one of many, many, things that are incorrect on most of those shows.
July 27, 20178 yr Regional dialects often cause communication difficulties. As a young shaver, I was introduced to wainscoting by an Amish craftsman from upper NY state. He pronounced it with the long 'O'. But, some of his other pronunciations were totally indecipherable for this IL farm boy. As were some of his nomenclature. Edited July 27, 20178 yr by Gene Howe
