June 24, 20178 yr Good Afternoon Friends, Well finally I got back on the internet as a result of Spectrum taking over Time Warner and had the forums blocked for a few days. Thanks to Stick for reminding me that I hadn't been on for a few weeks as I totally forgot to publish. Now here is the quiz; How many BF of lumber will you find in 203 SF of a deck that is 1"thick?
June 24, 20178 yr Assuming the deck boards are 6" wide (5 1/2 for those folks who buy their lumber from Home Depot and didn't take shop class), I'd say about 101.5bdft.
June 24, 20178 yr This a trick question Ralph... 203BF... solid count not allowing for spacing... one board foot is a piece of lumber that is 1 foot wide, 1 foot long (i square foot) and 1 inch thick, or its volumetric equivalent..... but if Ralph said the deck 1½'' thick (cause who has a deck 1'' thick) it'd be 305.5BF actual... but... there's always another but... if the deck boards are 1¼'' thick there would be 253.75BF actual... but....... (there's that but again)... construction lumber is sold by rough dimension... a 2x6x12 (1½''x5½''x12' if we're lucky) has 8,25BF actual and sold as 12BF Edited June 24, 20178 yr by Stick486

June 24, 20178 yr years ago, i built a deck in our backyard. and among other things, i carefully spaced the boards for drainage. about the same time my neighbor had her's replaced, and so i watched that work with interest. they guy also used Trex and left zero gap between the boards. they always had nice puddles after a rain.
June 24, 20178 yr Author It ain't real coffee till the spoon stands straight up. The correct answer is indeed 203 BF and yeas it was a trick question. April fool in June.
