I have plans to build a miter saw station, but it's pretty far down on the list.  Anyone have one of these and/or comment on suitability?  Not sure I could build one for $99 unless I get a lot of free material somewhere.

If portability is needed, I don't think you could beat it.

had similar for jobsite.. it was nice for portability but more often than not cutting/managing lengths was difficult w/o auxiliary material supports..

for short pieces it's the cat's meow....

My first miter saw stand was an Hitatchi as I got it in a package with the 10" Hitatchi Miter saw. It looked very much like the one you posted and it worked out well for a few years. I upgraded to the Ridgid miter saw stand about 12 years ago as it was more portable with wheeled and would easily collapse with the saw attached and I could roll it just about anywhere and it was pretty easy to get it in and out of my truck bed. They have changed the design a couple of times over the past decade, but it is still similar in function. There are a number of different portable miter saw stands, but the one thing you might want consider is mobility especially if you will be using it outside of your shop. Having one with wheels that folds down with your miter saw attached makes life so much easier as it really sucks when I have to pick up and carry my Dewalt 12" slider. I had a few good plans to build a miter saw table from my shop which is in a 3 car garage, but the portable miter saw stand makes far more sense in my mind especially if you may need to take your miter saw off site. The cost for either the Ridgid from Home Depot or the Dewalt from Lowes are both $199 which is twice the price of the one you posted. But it sure makes life easier on the back to roll it then to drag it.

I have some random, unbranded stand that a brother-in-law gave me, and it's handy to a point. The weight, however, makes it a bit ungainly! If I were looking for another one, I would prefer it be aluminum rather than steel, even if it DOES have wheels! Something to keep in mind.

Look the same but different.  The Rigid wheels look bigger.  Easier to roll over debris.  Rigid wheels look usable in up or collapsed positions.  Haven't any experience with either.

I use the Portamate pm-7000 - the "wings" extend past 6' in each direction. I've used mine for over 3 years now with no hiccups yet.

(This is just a screen grab pic of one and not mine)

That front part would make a handy step-up for very short woodworkers!

I'm guessing this is just for use on the shop (?). If that's true the one you linked should be plenty good. I suspect the length consideration isn't a concern, after all with the given spread of the arms I would think you would have no trouble cutting wood up to maybe 10' long. The price is right, and I agree  that you would be hard pressed to build something for much less.

FWIW, I don't have the one you've linked Keith, but I paid $30 more on sale several years ago for my Craftsman version. I'd also planned to build a fixed station but since I've done more rough carpentry than WW'ing with mine never got a round tuit. I like and really need the portability versus a dedicated station. I still have an old RAS I use for some things too.

For $99, shipped to your door, I don't think you could go wrong. Nice looking stand with good features for the $$'s IMO.

Put a wide board on the saw to make a nice place to have donuts and coffee at break time.

at 6'5", that's no a problem that I have.   Quite the contrary, most tools are too short.

In that case, 4' stepladders make good sawhorses!

So did you decide to go ahead and get one?????

Nope still trying to decide.  Been away for a week and taken a back burner.

Another good reason to buy rather than build.
