June 22, 20179 yr I remember Lowe's lost a suit a few years ago. Now Home Depot and Menards are getting sued because a 4x4 is only 3.5" x 3.5" http://www.woodworkingnetwork.com/news/woodworking-industry-news/home-depot-menards-under-fire-over-lumber-sizes?utm_source=Real_Magnet&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=byhammerandhand@yahoo.com&utm_content=BREAKING NEWS&utm_campaign=Breaking%3A Home Depot%2C Menards face lawsuit over lumber I remember having a similar discussion with a friend who is now a retired Home Ec. and ESL teacher. Her: "How thick is a 1x4x8?" me: "Three-fourth inches" Her: "Hmmm. How wide is it, then? me "Three and a half inches." Her: "Aaak! How long would it be, then?" me" "Ninety six inches." Her "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" I guess she was used to a cup of sugar being a cup and 3 yards of fabric being three yards. Edited June 22, 20179 yr by kmealy
June 22, 20179 yr Popular Post two guys go to the lumber store to buy some lumber to build a house. they find the clerk, "Hi, we're building a house, and we need some 2x4s" "Great, how long do you want them?" Hmmm.....good question they think, they confer, and then answer, "About 40 years".... thanks, i'm here all week, try the veal, tip the waitress, try the slots. :rimshot:
June 22, 20179 yr Popular Post Yeah, I remember reading about that law suit - now, if you look at the sign by the 2 x4's you will see actual dimensions next to the "standard" dimensions. Just about everything in their store is like that now. The idiot(s) who should be removed from the gene pool is the jury and judge of that trial.
June 22, 20179 yr Popular Post I wanna know who is selling these idiots hammers and nails. Of course it could be like this carpenter's helper- Carpenter- why are you throwing some of those nails on the ground? Helper- The heads are on the wrong end of the nail! Carpenter- You fool, those are for the other side of the house.
June 22, 20179 yr Just money grubbing lawyers like this one. https://www.forbes.com/sites/ericgoldman/2016/02/29/why-the-subway-footlong-lawsuits-fell-short/#3dcd3e1569f2

June 23, 20179 yr I hope the stores are marking actual dimensions of all the rest of their dimensional lumber to stave off the blood suckers.
June 23, 20179 yr Popular Post Next thing will be a feminist uproar over the term "stud"....regardless it's dimensions.

The lumber yard closest to me offers A/C plywood thicknesses in mm. CDX is still imperial. One place sells appleply and its imperial and 4x8 sheets.
June 23, 20179 yr Popular Post This is yet another reason that lawsuits should be reviewed by an ABA board before they are allowed to proceed. If it is judged to be trivial, the plaintiff pays the cost of reviewing the suit. We all suffer from this ludicrous practice. hat

One of them, "Don't hire an ambulance-chasing law firm, contact us." Yeah, and the difference would be ....?
