Narex chisels?

Featured Replies

Anybody use them? What's your experience? Good, bad, ugly?

I have one, a 1/4" mortising chisel. It's not all that bad, seems to hold an edge relatively well and so far has held up to the pounding mortising chisels take. I'd say they are one of the better bang-for-the-buck brands available. I don't have any of their bench chisels but i've seen similar comments about them. Are you looking for bench chisels?

I got the 8-piece bench chisel set from LV for Christmas a few years ago. VERY happy with them! Hold an edge well. Good value for the money.

Both, bench and mortising chisels. Probably a 6 pc set of bench chisels an a couple sizes of mortise chisels.

Just ordered a 6 pc set of bench chisels and a 3 pc set of mortise chisels.

Now, to set aside a few hours for sharpening.

Shouldn't take you too long!

I got the 3 piece mortising set a few years ago for doing a large number of mortises on a Mission TV Stand. They were great out of the box and have always performed well.

good place to do business... very good....

Narex chisels and more...

I purchased the three set of Narex Mortise Chisels, I did not like them. They did not seem to have the heft I was after, that's just me folks, and I'm a nobody so take it as you may.

I did some more research and I purchased one 1/4" Ray Iles English Mortise Chisel and absolutely love it, heft, great firm registration, it's awesome, for me.

The sets I ordered just arrived. Thank you FEDEX.

Got the 6, 8, and 10 mm mortise chisels and the a boxed set of 6.

6, 10,12, 16, 20 and 26 mm bevel edge chisels.

They are very nicely sharpened with metal banded beech handles.

Now I can put my crappy, beaten and battered set of Ashley Iles in semi retirement.

Just kidding, John. The old ones are really old Marples with wood handles. Don't know how old they actually are. I bought them in an old hardware store in Crescent City, CA in 1980. They were in a mouse eaten cardboard box. No telling how long they'd been in stock. IIRC, I gave $12.50 for them. Was the price an indication of their age or, their quality? IDK. They've done a decent job for me.

I'll pass them on to my son. He'll be happy.....till he sees the Narexs.

There is a very interesting article in Popular Woodworking by Chris Schwarz

http://www.popularwoodworking.com/apr17/good-chisel-sense

He talks about balance and adapting or redoing a handle. Look it up I think you will like it.
