What's your favorite tool?

I was hesitant to identify one tool as my favorite and thereby make the others jealous. You don't want a shop full of jealous tools. ;)

Like a good parent, I tell all of my tools that I love them equally...and the truth be told, I do!

My carpenter square, My construction square, Because they are the first tools I use to start a project.  Then BS, Jointer, TP and then TS then router.  Mainly making a bunch of home improvement stuff and getting ready to start on a new hamper for the spouse.

I can tell you what I don't use often and what I can't stand

I don't use the vibrating multi tool much - - actually I can't recall where I put the thing

I hate that zip cutter thing I picked up in the vain hope that it'd make sheet rock work easier. It just makles a mess

As for enjoy:

My tool hits the  wood on a lathe and I am transfixed.

I've learned that really good lathe tools make a huge difference.

Doug Thompson makes  some great lathe tools.

That's a tough question because all of them hold a special place in the shop.  That being said, I have to agree with Keith and say my 1947 Unisaw has to be the pivot for everything else in the shop.  Without a good table saw, it would be tough for me to build anything.

I use my table saw, band saw, and planer for most of my work. However, my favorite tool is the Veritas medium shoulder plane because I use it to make the final close fit for rabbits, tenons, etc. in my jewelry boxes and cabinets.

All my favorite are the ones I lost, can't find them anywhere. All the ones I seldom use are on chains around my neck, in my pockets, in my hands and in the way always.

I'm loving my newly acquired draw knife and Veritas shave, that I have been using to shape the arms on my chairs. I just loving using them more than anything right now.

Guess I would have to say my favorite would be my big

Grizzly metal lathe or my Bridgeport but the one tool

that I could not live without would be my bench vise...

Yeah, my vice and I are pretty tight, too.

My favorite tool?    That would be...time....as in the time I can get to use all the shop's tools.
