I wanted to go to the academy when I graduated from high school, but couldn't pass the physical, I even had contacted Senator Jackson, but the physical showed a heart murmer,so I was disqualified ,you had to be A-1+ to get in. My hat is off to you, sir. Herb lew 1 Quote

Lew, I lived in Tall Timbers for 16 years and made several trips to Baltimore and went aboard CONSTELLATION several times. Here are copies of a Commemorative Coin from a rebuild around the late 60's. I got it in Honolulu Hi from a Longshoreman who was part of a Baltimore group surveying West Coast & Hawaii ports for practices and procedures. At the time I was the Coast Guard Captain of the Port for the Hawaii Islands, and was involved because of the CG responsibility for safety of all Port Facilities. Al B Posted August 16, 2017 Report Posted August 16, 2017 (edited) I've admired the EAGLE for years, but have never seen it personally. She's a beautiful ship. Never got to sail any distance on a sailing vessel, but I did manage to get a small taste of it locally. The one thing I discovered is, Just how hard it is to raise the sails. The crews of the EAGLE definitely have to be a proud group. MY dad served in the Coast Guard during WW11. When WW11 began, the Coast Guard has a need for boats. My uncle has built a 32" cabin cruiser just before the war. It took little time for the Coast Guard to take the boat for patrolling along the Atlantic Coast. The local city of Newburyport, MA is a proud Cost Guard City. Thank you for your service ! Edited August 16, 2017 by It Was Al B Gene Howe, Old Coasty and lew 1 2 Quote
