I think I will make it look like my own rocket ship. All I gotta do is research and find out if water and propane combining the two plus a few other good elements will shoot it up into the moons orbit or mars....or New Mexico.IMG_8983.JPG.f11309a35aa18067d0e04e7280a3aa5b.JPG

It was a little catchie while welding and cutting holes in the 1/4" steel. I just tipped it up so all the propane would go to the other end away from where I was working at the time. A disclaimer,,,, it was hard to tip up safely.

The first question I had after I finished installing it was, how the heck did you get that big thing up there. My answer was probably easier than the next guy that owns this place will have getting it down to repair or what ever...>>>>

The Martins sure threw a fit but the swallows under the roof of the dock really didn't give a hoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I can build a pontoon boat with the two tanks I replaced. A little small, like a third of a person size but hey the waves are easy to to navigate and I wear small size shoes.....

And I should say don't try this at you home for you probably don't have good neighbors like I do!!!

I'm sure our local conservation com. would have banned that installation. I'd paint it green so it would blend in with the trees. I think the martins will accept the minor intrusion.

@Smallpatch

Did I read you right...you tipped it up so the propane would go to the other side from where you were welding and cutting...?  ...and it worked...?!?!?!?   ...and it didn't wind up in New Mexico...?  :o

Nick, I hope you don't believe everything I say when describing my ventures. I retired a firefighter and know very well what propane is and always treat it with the utmost respect....

The tank had been empty for about 20 years....... But a person should act as if it still has even a cup full of propane...

What I did to make sure the gas was gone gone, I filled it full of water and let it run over for a while then turned it up side down, emptied the water out, then run air through the tank while upside down for an hour or so. Turned it upright and filled it full of water again.......then upside again with the air going a while more. Then carried the tank off to the burn pile which was not burning, positioned the tank holes so when I did light a fire they would be directly under the holes in the tank.  With the back-hoe bucket up against the tank I built a long trench fire out behind the backhoe and which would end up under the tank holes in a half hour or so to give me a head start in case there was a smidgen of gas still hid somewhere in that tank...And frankly I did not loose anything in New Mexico so  I didn't want to end up there all of a sudden.

All of this commotion took about 4 days to make sure in my mind nothing was in that tank to worry about...then another day to cut holes in the tank where needed and plugged the holes that was already there, plus weld legs and braces where needed...Next I'll be headed to the scrap iron place to see if there is anything that might help it look like a space rocket plus add a few martin houses to the 8- 12 room houses I already have up in the air......

By the way if anyone has an inside basement under their house with no low outside access, propane is the very worse thing a person should have in that house...being heavier than air it will settle in that basement and no matter where they live they might end up in, you guessed it, somewhere in New Mexico.....

PHEW ! ! !...thanks...LOL...

I'll get used to you guys yet...:)

Maybe now it is safe enough to get closer to the tank with the camera so we can get a better look at it.  I'm pretty sure the camera shutter doesn't make sparks.

I had my wife go take a picture of the installed tank so you could see what I been doing instead of wood working. I said why so far away, its a long ways down there for no more than what you were wanting me to do. Should I question my wife's answer Dan????

So here is a close up.

This is how I attached the legs to the tank so I could bolt the tank to the I beam.

This is the reason I stood the tank upright for that is the only area I had to set it. Or else we would have had to climb over the tank each time we went out on the dock.IMG_8991.JPG.7c92928a984f10c47c4390dd39111b8c.JPG
