Good Morning boys and girls.  Wake up because it is Monday again.  I'm filling in for the boss this morning so let's chat a bit.  The weekend brought cold weather to Indiana, a new leader in France, a different Kentucky Derby winner and one day closer to the Indy 500.  YAH!!!!!!

This week should bring an end to my school project of cabinet building and I have toi admit that it was fun and profitable but I'm ready to move on to something that isn't birch plywood.  Maybe a couple of shadow boxes.

As we tear into a new week, let's hear from y'all.  What did you get done over the weekend and what's on your agenda for this bright new shiny week?

A bit chilly here, too.

Hope to get as far as installing hinges on a prototype gun case by the end of the week. Then, get approval to begin work on the mesquite one.

35° outside this morning. Right now riding herd on a class of Electronics Technology students at the local Vo-Tech.

Got to 31 here before it got turned around, heavy frost for sure. Didn't get much woodworking done this weekend. We had a very good meeting at our turning club yesterday and that was fun. Have to visit a couple shops this morning and then this afternoon will probably attack the mowing as there is rain in the forecast for the next three days. Don't especially need rain as we've still got standing water from the last go round. Still, looks like it's going to be a beautiful day today!

Steve

The weather cleared up enough to finish most of the clean up from last weeks storm and a week of rain.  Still have an area too waterlogged to get to but is mostly small branches and twigs.  Worked on some equipment that went down during the clean up for me and some neighbors.  Waiting on parts for a chainsaw is all that is left.  Hope this week gets us back to normal.

We went up north to visit my mother-in-law and for a planning session on getting my wife's place cleaned, packed and ready to get it on the market. The next couple of months are going to be really fun, I can see the writing on the wall already.

Finishing up a chicken coop / run / tractor for the keets I got over the weekend.   Need to make one end, one door, and then screen it.

First (and probably last) attempt to re-purpose used pallet wood.  The nails, oh, the nails!  Didn't spend $100 or so on wood, but two days getting them and pulling nails.

Daughter requested a new sandbox for the kids.   Hope to get the parts cut this week and assemble when I'm there next week.

The mission dresser is languishing in the shop waiting for pull and drawer front attachment.   Sits there while time-critical projects need done.

I'll post photos when get closer to being done.

Saturday I got to work in my shop doing a bunch of planing, cutting and sanding on some reclaimed wood for shelves and hat/coat racks to sell. Since Tami and I bought our airline tickets to fly to Nashville in July for 3 weeks of R&R&R&R (Rest, Relaxation and Retirement Research) to look at places to retire to in the Mid-West and enjoy being out of California for awhile, I want to make up for some of the costs of the trip. So I got a fair amount completed, but I have a lot more sanding to do. Especially on some remaining reclaimed Douglas Fir that was left over from a few years ago that came out of a barn from the 1880's that I made into a Queen Size Headboard and a sliding barn door for our bathroom. I have to be really careful handling that old Doug Fir as the splinters are nasty so I do everything while wearing leather work gloves.

On Sunday we decided to get out for the day and headed south to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park to walk around. This is part of the San Diego Zoo, but it is a breeding facility located north east of San Diego with large open spaces that many of the species can roam around in a more natural environment in the 1,800 acre facility. We have been season pass holders for close to 25 years and it is about an hour drive from our home. It rained most of the time while we were there which meant that there were very few people there which was wonderful. It was a really nice time walking out in the rain with a big umbrella seeing the beauty of the valley of the surrounding area. So we had a nice and relaxing time together.

Finally got some much needed mowing done over the weekend...still more to go and rain is in the forecast starting tomorrow through Friday. We missed out on the frost on our side of the state...

SIL surprised me Sat. evening when he got home from work with a box of spark plugs for his car; Got those replaced yesterday...he (& daughter and grandkids) reciprocated by picking up all the sticks/ yard debris from last weeks storms & winds...Lost satellite signal this AM...I have a run of coax that is OLD I'm going to replace.

Have some errands to run mid week; hopefully will get some garage time in getting all weed-eaters going and remaining L&G equipment serviced; I have a pile of mower blades that need sharpened & balanced too.

Normal Monday....may get motivated to mow the yards....about it.

The weather is not too bad here. In the 60's and stopped raining. This week I have some yard work to get done then I want to practice on the lathe.

It finally stopped raining and groundwater has stopped coming into my sump. What a relief. Summer is setting in with higher than normal temps, 70s-80s. Went out to the shop and started making 3 jewelry boxes using cherry and curly maple. Got to plan some inlays. Feels so dang good to be back at it.

Saturday my wife and I cleaned out the storage room in the shop and spent some time cleaning up the shop. I backed my truck up to the storage room doors and we started throwing small pieces on the truck, I loaded the bed of the truck twice and hauled off that many small cutoffs I kept saving thinking I would use them. After a while you just have to give in and throw some of it away. I made a lot of people happy cause before the day was over, most of it had been taken by those that ride the neighborhoods looking for things thrown away. I was glad I could help them out.

Monday we made a trip to Memphis for my wife's sister's funeral. She got bad sick about two weeks ago, but improved and we thought she had it turned around and was getting better.

Today, I am in the shop working on finished the bathroom Walnut vanity and a Walnut shelf. At the moment, I'm waiting on finish to dry.

Sorry for your loss, John.

Condolences & prayers to your wife, you & the families John.

My prayers are with you and your wife, John.

Ta-da -- almost done.   Attach the top and back and ship it!   Remembered why I really don't like inset drawers, especially those on metal guides.  The more astute of you will notice how the grain runs horizontally across each level of drawers.   Difference between this and factory slam-bam.
