Darn Birds

Featured Replies

Look what they did to my bedroom window screen?  Not sure what kind of birds, looked like a wren in size with a reddish red.  I'll have to get it re-screened using aluminum screen.    Danl

Destructive little devils.

Think they were after nesting material?

That would frost my butt. I'd bet it was gathering nesting material they were doing.

They are persistent.  I'm surprised they were able to cut little pieces off.  I had some trying to build a nest in the awning where the door would hit it.  Took a few days to discourage them.  Hopefully they got it build somewhere else.

My friend said to shoot them.  Somehow I think I would have a bigger problem.  I'm sure they are using the screen for nesting material.  I hope that do not go to the front of my home. I installed Anderson ReNewals in 2015.  I have no idea how to get rid of them.  Danl

Danl, you could try discouraging them by getting one of those rubber snakes - or a real cat...

In my fig tree a couple years ago we hung up some old CD/DVD's in the tree.  The wind would blow them around and the reflected light would discourage the birds - for a "little while".

If a wren-sized bird can pull your screen apart, it's probably time to replace it anyway. (The screen, not the bird.)

Please ignore the QUOTE box below. Can't seem to get rid of it.

Here's a link to the snake we use to discourage swallows from nest building. They work. https://www.amazon.com/Rubber-RAINFOREST-Figures-Anaconda-Constrictor/dp/B002UQ39EQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494239556&sr=8-1&keywords=rubber+snakes+to+keep+birds+awayhttps://www.ama

Birds don't like them, either.

  • 2 weeks later...

Cut the grass but do not collect the clippings the birds will go after the straw faster then the screen.

Hummingbirds use spider webs to build their nest and they do a good job.

We welcome swallows and Bats as they eat many and I mean many Mosquitos. If we could cross a swallow, bat, hummingbird and an F16 fighter we would only need a one plane Air Force.
