Had something unusual with Fresh pecan log yesterday. Limb came down Sunday and I turned two sections yesterday. The cambium layer (just under the bark) peeled off like a wrapper. This log was covered in a fern growth an this growth and some. Bark peeled easily by hand. Have turned green pecan before and never anything like this happpened.

I have seen that on Fir trees - the sap is running high right now and the bark and cambium layer will fall right off if hit just right

Wow! If you had enough of that you could make a pecan bark canoe!!

 

I have never had an experience like that.  I agree, different.
