April 15, 20179 yr Can you take a small piece of wood, use double face tape down its length, clamp for a good joint, and then turn it? I've never heard it discussed, would seem a bit unsafe, I'd think. Maybe a small piece on my mini? I've got an idea and this could be something that could help.
April 15, 20179 yr That is generally done gluing full length with a piece of brown paper bag in between and then split apart when finished turning.
April 15, 20179 yr I have done it using turners tape and it works well. The glue and brown paper method works just as well IMO. Its important to realize there is a difference between turners tape and double sided tape from the big box. Either will hold but the turners tape holds better and doesn't leave a lot of residue. April 15, 20179 yr I mostly use the brown paper bag/glue method. LAst time I bought a roll of double sided sticky tape, I mistakenly picked up a roll that had a mesh embedded in it. That stuff is really strong and could probably be used for turning. I think I'd still rely on the tailstock, as much as possible, to hold things in place.

April 15, 20179 yr You can use a tape with less adhesive such as Scotch Double Sided tape but should keep the piece wrapped around the circumference in the areas you are not working. I use a good 3M electricians tape for the wrap. It can be stretched as it is applied.
April 16, 20179 yr Carpet tape works , has the cloth center. The adhesive can be dissolved with Goo B Gone or acetone. Always a possibility that tape may lose hold so take lighter cuts. I have used tape on a faceplate and it does work that way also.
