April 8, 20179 yr Yep! One thing I would do is make an indicator mark on the wood to match one of the jaws (ie #1). That way if you need to remove the piece and put it back in , it will have the same orientation in respect to the chuck

April 8, 20179 yr I do it all the time. I mark center on one end for your tailstock. Clamp it up and turn. You can, and sometimes I do, cut a tenon and flip it end for end. Steve Edited April 8, 20179 yr by Steve Krumanaker left out a word.
April 9, 20179 yr I don't recommend you do that John. hammers aren't that expensive and you will probably ruin the chuck if you use it to pound in screws
