Darn splinter

Yesterday I got a tiny splinter in my finger. I kept putting up with it till this morning. I got my magnifying light and tweezers out and quickly found out I couldn't get it. It was tiny but hurt like a big one. Then I remembered something I saw on the web. To remove a wooden splinter, clean the area  and apply wood glue. Let it dry until it is like a new layer  of skin.  Then peel it off and the splinter will come out with the glue. I did this with NO expectations because the splinter was so small. It worked!  I can't say it would work on a big one or an embedded big one.  It sure worked for me.

Wished I had known that a couple of years ago.  I made some cabinets from "Dragon Ply."   Supposedly a premium plywood from China.   Sort of like "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king?"   Every time I touched the stuff I got a minute splinter from the ultra-thin top veneer.   Being light colored (birch), it was impossible to see.

Great to know. I will try to remember this

Good to know!!

I even had a Dr. dig around for a big splinter and he couldn't find it. The big ones will sooner or later fester up . Just squeeze the pus and the splinter will come out then. What a relief then.

Elmers or TiteBond Original, II or III?:P

Happy to hear it worked regardless Ron...and thanks, great tip!!

I am glad you got it out. I have one in my left fore finger now that is about a year old and the skin has grown over it. Every once in awhile conditions are just right and it reminds me that it still exists. The ones I really don't like are the ones under the thumb/fingernail.

The glue did get most of it out, but I found out later that some broke off and had to be removed the old fashioned way. However I will use the glue again. Maybe if I had used it sooner while the splinter was stil kind of dry, it may have worked better

I've heard of this baking soda trick, er, technique, but never tried it.

Keith, the comments to that link are hilarious, especially the one about the bacon having worms in it and they bore their way to your brain.
