Ok, scraps and some old cardboard boxes were toasted last night....

Got a late start today.....but..

58ee91e77ccb4_rebateandplane.JPG.b8a423d383cd51c62a832fdb7f41335d.JPG

Needed a place to add a back to the till.   Depth is 1/4", width around...1/2" or so.   One edge was easy to clamp up in the leg vise....the other was a little tricky..

Crochet.JPG.5259665e48e876bbeae260302d831484.JPG

I have a "hook" down on the end of the bench, called a Crochet.   Stop block to uphold things, clamp to keep thing in their place.

resaw.JPG.1cdc6239ec2a1c26e843c73cb83fdab1.JPG

One of two resaws, this one will be behind the kerf block..

58ee931621111_kerfblock.JPG.7ba561b9963fd7bf421950a54c8edcbe.JPG

Slots to hold the saw's plates.   Centered on the resawn part, but..hold to glue and clamp this thing?

workmate.JPG.6dc3db0c5b43d600cac22a6a58d383a3.JPG

WorkMate!  Works for me.   Got out the usual suspects..

58ee93c3ba9d9_layoutandsaw.JPG.e34a9b2beb9ae8ee2e9913849b6e8cbe.JPG

Laid out for some dovetail pins, and ran the "dovetail" saw a bit.    Not a whole lot of leg room..

vise.JPG.25d260f7dd0c8d503a02bec145589c1e.JPG

Got some lines to cut to..

lines.JPG.654d2e3b3cacc61bb102de70fe12396d.JPG

Well abused spot....  Then some chopping toys..

58ee949d02c3e_chop1.JPG.d54672dfc15e4f593bf7d9d716b6c070.JPG

Chop a bit from this side, leaving a little out on the ends, then

58ee94dfa11af_chop2.JPG.c102e883f155786589a10072deca70e1.JPG

Flip it over, and chop out the waste.   Had to use a skinny chisel for this side.....somehow, got both of the tops done..

58ee9547ee339_completedpins.JPG.fceaac6bd70fe8caeaf8e2818b8d5000.JPG

Sitting with the "inside" faces together.   Found out, I had run a rebate on the wrong edge of the piece for across the top....trim a new board to length, surface S4S with a couple jack planes

Whew,  and sweeping the floor between each step.. Laid out the tails, and cut them out.....test fit?

58ee960560717_testfit.JPG.297e195f94c6500c2fda73eef3fabf71.JPG

Meh...will need a little tune up, but

square.JPG.3573abe4e0b2a1954cbb4db4d7929e07.JPG

At least it is square.  I got the other end done, as well....dang knot was in the way.....will need a bit of dust & glue filler.

Set these three parts aside, swept the floor ...again.  Decided to call it an afternoon.   No A/C in the shop, I'm soaked clear through, and tired.   BREAKTIME!

Maybe later tonight, I might wander back to the shop.....Hmmm, 3 hours be enough for one day's work?  Stay tuned...

You know Steven, I have never got a part backwards before... I also have some lakefront property for sale in Mongolia ;)

Snuck back down to the shop....figured when the Mountain Dew ran out, I would call it a day/night/whatever

58ef04d7c4a68_laidout.JPG.62926dfa613cddbe519e154081ca0ad9.JPG

Wider board, means more dovetails to do.   These will be pins first this time around.    Idea is to do the pins on both ends of the bottom board...saw a little..

58ef055804269_chop1.JPG.b253cc0ae286a936298b712f8c882d0d.JPG

Yep, that was the chisel for this side. leaving a little bit out on the end, to support things when I flip the board over..

58ef05c4bccc9_chop2.JPG.cd901914d1bad9e1876ed3ef14b24b91.JPG

Needed a skinny chisel for this side, wound up using quite a few chisels..

58ef060b1bc06_chisels3.JPG.5bb368162281737fdb739668fa9add2f.JPG

And a few wider ones.  Got the pins done, time to lay out the tails.   Cheated a bit..

58ef066812c99_laidout2.JPG.c20cf91cf2b6e574b70ef0e8d773ac4d.JPG

Sharpened the pencil and traced around ALL of the pins, while letting the assembly hold things almost  still....Refined the lines,  bandsaw to cut on the waste side of the lines, trying to leave the lines.   More chisel work...test fits....then got the glue up out of the Work Mate.    Test fit showed it needed a sliver cut off.   Got that done, and set the til parts in their places....

58ef0764410a4_sawtil.JPG.b0da8dafa49b3b2c6c6c2073136feb13.JPG

Set two saws in there, to see how the will fit....The blade holder is just sitting there loose,   haven't got it installed....yet.   Also need to see how the handle rest will fit....don't think the saws will just sit like this..

handles.JPG.beae6460d2dfd58400e5894ae78cd1b0.JPG

This way, I can lean a saw out at the top, and lift the saw up.

May get to spread some Elmers by the weekend.....if I get a wee bit of time...Stay tuned.

That is really coming along! Great job!

enjoying watching this. Nice job Steve.

Test fit the handle rest today...meh, too low.   Made a new one a wee bit taller.    Then came the matter of rounding over this..thing..

58efbf976252a_squareends.JPG.0151c70135210e8ecf942f27fd7d723a.JPG

Don't think the handles would like sitting on this, grabbed a couple toys..

58efbfdd7ab82_roundovertools.JPG.12d0466887676b40f2ebe0f6be9cb0ad.JPG

Low angle block plane, and a spokeshave....then finished up with a bit of sandpaper...

58efc02d524a0_newedges.JPG.72ba68588e89c9b887a3c6e3ba0d74bf.JPG

Handles might like this better. Test fit...

58efc064df6f4_testfit.JPG.a2fb03917d50f752ae1681becc925070.JPG

Seemed to be about right.    Decided to glue the carcass up, to make fitting other parts a bit better..

58efc0b54adc7_clampforest.JPG.b3f8d08066ea8d7cc241c6bf5915fc11.JPG

Sizes can change, when dovetails are pulled tight.    letting Elmer do his thing for a while.    Maybe later, I can start on other parts.

Lower cleat to stand the bottom of the til away from the bench legs, is now in the Work Mate clamp.   Rest of the day off?   We'll see.....

Really taking some shape now. It's OK to take a little time off or at least do some sit-down work like sharpening (or napping).

Looking forward to the next episode...

Out of the clamps...planed and sanded the dovetailed corners...

58f02f818f231_cornerwork.JPG.295d07b6941e48c41458d18d228b7a0d.JPG

Cut the back to fit, added the saw keeper at the top, after A few cuts were made.

back.JPG.bc3117849c9a7317c78de124341457af.JPG

Those screws are to attach the til to the cleats holding it up..

cleatus.JPG.17fdab5b3bf5ea02a23cd1d37b514265.JPG

Will add a bit more to this one, still not enough lean back.....

58f0306cb4f61_handlerest...JPG.8e1a38084f67674b35b44c6ff8ee74d0.JPG

After all that work to make that little rest,,this was the ONLY saw it worked with.   Removed it, pending a few changes going on....

Got the saws into the til...barely..

58f030ed53a2c_tilfilled.JPG.adba1fceaf281c8cc23658d7cee3df5d.JPG

Added a keeper bar after this shot, couple saw didn't want to stay put.   used the keeper bar to store two shorty panel saws.   Have one more regular length saw, when it gets back from the sharpener's place.

Will add more lean back, and try again on the handle rest,,tomorrow,  maybe.   May add a topper, as I had to daylight things to get the longer saws in.   I am bushed.....stay tuned..

I'll be here...enjoying the "watch-a-long!!" Thanks for giving me a ticket!

By my count, once you get the one back from the sharpeners, you'll only have two empty slots...guess you know what that means...better get started on the next till after this one is done:D

That looks really good! I agree with Dave - you have better get started on the next one...

Slept on things...not happy with some of the details with this til....changes will get made today or tomorrow.....

Move the til up a few feet,, sit it on top of the lathe bench.

Not enough lean back, saws not wanting to sit still.....Cleatus will get moved a bit...

Has a keeper bar.....will try to do without it, by increasing the lean back.

Top piece.....needs cut to allow longer saws some room.   Saw kerfs to be lengthened.

Sides look a bit too plain..may add something  there....

One of the dangers of doing things in one's head.....a single brain cell tends to get overworked......

This looks to be quite a Two Mountain Dew Problem.....cussing will get done, too....ear plugs on request:o

Saw Til PIP #2:

58f11e0ca62e4_floorshow.JPG.9cdcc3c115abed474868fc1c5cbdee1f.JPG

Floor Show.  Where the til USED to be..

.58f11e5f66661_frontview.JPG.96cbed92ebcec321178cb8a284f8aa30.JPG

Then look up a bit...the two saws to the left?   I added a peg for the short saws to sit on.   Each handle sits in a notch on the 7/8" dowel.

Open slot for the missing saw.   May get it back tomorrow?

58f11f0517725_sideview.JPG.1939cf6b15aa5241e45fd79a8c82972d.JPG

Side view.   Keyhole saw has a smaller peg to hold onto...

58f11f55ace67_handlerest.JPG.0df884a175f2de6b7c95a67f1ed4b661.JPG

"Horns" on the handles sit in a  groove, made with two 1 x1s

Have since added a small peg, for my "dovetail saw" to hang from.   Sits above the short saws on the outside. and a kerf to hold the blade was cut into the block holding the Large peg.

No Finish on this....yet.

BTW:  That Junker lathe, it has supplied a belt for the sanding machine.   Test drive showed the belt will stay put.   Parting out the rest of the lathe....mostly into a trash can.  Other than the parts a friend requested, that is.   Mountain Dew can is empty, time to stop for today.....Not sure IF this will get posted as a"Project"

As long as it takes for that smelly Witch's Brew to dry.<_<...I may skip the finishing step.....May hang a few Backsaws on the other side, like on the left side.   I can hang other items on the back, as needed....

Have no clue as to what project will get made next.....may have to sleep on it......
