We are looking to replace our 8' patio door sometime late summer. We now have a Anderson patio door. Since I've been out of the loop on patio doors for sometime now can anyone recommend a good brand of patio door. Lowes, Menards, Home Depot and whoever else seem to all have their own brands that they sell. Just trying to get some ideas so that we can go look at a good quality patio door. There are so many different brands out now that it could make your head spin and want to go to the donut shop.

Our son installed a MasterPiece slider from HD. He's in Tucson and the door gets lots of west sun so, he opted for the blinds between the double panes. It's composite and has shown no signs of sun damage in 3 years. 

Not sure, but I think it was pre hung. At any rate, it is really smooth sliding.

Is this a slider? I lived with sliders for 10 years in my old house. Never again. At some point you will have a problem with them. Wheels wear out or get out of adjustment or someone just yanks the door too hard, and then tracks get damaged. When I built my house I put in Anderson french doors instead. No more worrying about wheels and tracks. Also very easy to open both doors to bring in my monster Christmas tree each year. I would never be able to get the tree in without having to remove both the sliding door and the stationary door. That is not fun. We installed a new Anderson replacement slider at work about 10 years ago. In the last year I had to replace the wheels. Unfortunately, the track was damaged before I put the new wheels in so I had to install a track repair kit also. The good thing about choosing Anderson is the parts are easily available even for older doors.

Yes it is a slider. I had the french doors in years ago and they just didn't work out. Take up too much room when open.
