March 24, 20179 yr Popular Post My sister "commissioned" this for her husband. She said price was no object (as in free) because it probably be cheaper than a trip to the emergency room. I found a couple of designs from a Google search and he picked the one he liked. It's large enough to hold the "deli" versions. Made from scraps from the lumber rack. Maple, Walnut and a small piece of cherry. All glued joints. Finished with mineral oil and bee's wax. Time to get back to the lathe! Edited March 24, 20179 yr by lew
March 24, 20179 yr What? No clamp to hold the bagel steady? Looks like a good use of scraps. Nicely done.
March 24, 20179 yr Well done Lew. Nice mix & use of scraps...Since a bagel is just a dieters doughnut, I suppose you could slice doughnuts in it too?

March 24, 20179 yr Well done Lew...sometimes I wonder "what can I make for ________"...this is a great idea...
March 24, 20179 yr I am not a bagal fan, but you did a nice job on the guide. As far as doughnuts go, I can't think of any reason to slice them, Herb

March 25, 20179 yr Had a lunch meeting today at a restaurant. One menu item was Bacon and Peanut Butter Hamburger (!?) Engineering principle I learned long ago, "Just because you can doesn't mean you should." I still laugh at my jerk brother in law. A long time ago, he and my sister were visiting and he tried to cut a slice of bread. Nothing ever being his fault, "This knife doesn't cut straight." Funny, I'd used it for 15 years and never had that problem. Maybe I should make him a bread slicer???

March 25, 20179 yr Author Thanks for all of the positive (and humorous) comments! I kinda figured the subject of doughnuts would come up! I must tell you a story about doughnuts. Our "adopted" son owns an upscale restaurant here. He is always trying to come up with menu items not available at other eateries. Not long ago, we had supper there and he brought out his latest creation, a new dessert item. He called it "Ted's Bread Pudding". He told us that instead of using bread, he makes it using doughnuts. You gain 5 pounds as soon as they set the plate on the table! If you are ever near Gettysburg, PA, you gotta stop in and try it! Keith, when I was looking for examples, I came across this- Thanks again for looking!

Even Guy Fieri succumbed to one of these on his Diners, Drive-ins & Dives segments...My son-in-law says they're awesome...I'm like you, doesn't make culinary sense. Route 66 - Triple XXX Restaurants The Duane Purvis All-American* A burger for the more adventurous! A 1/4 lb. of 100% ground sirloin with thick, creamy peanut butter served on a toasted sesame seed bun with melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion. A very special treat!
March 25, 20179 yr Culinary sense or not, I'd give it a shot. But then, peanut butter, like bacon, is good on almost anything. Yum.
March 25, 20179 yr There is a culinary expression: "There is hardly anything that can't be improved with garlic or whipped cream, but rarely both." Bacon is OK in my book but I can take it or leave it. Garlic and I don't get along well. But whipped cream is good.
