Got a note from Wood Mag that in any further dealings with them, arbitration is required.  I usually like to get kissed first.  Puts me off renewing.  What kind of relationship do they expect me 'n them to have that a dispute will arise requiring arbitration?  Seems more likely driven by "Corporate", the same people who terminated the discussion groups.  Hey save a buck, right?  Right.  I plan to......!  Gonna need that money for a lawyer I guess.  It's a Boy Scout thing:  either Be Prepared, or take the other trail:  the trail without the snake.

Interesting, you must have peeved someone off. Can't imagine what could possibly need to be arbitrated over a magazine subscription.

that place lost their soul, their love for woodworking, their care for their readers, long, long ago.  now...just make money baby, screw the customers and advertisers.

Sure am interested in alternative mag's.

Do not like the way Wood is going.

used to love WOOD. too tuned down, nothing really new. finewoodworking at least is better.

I got the same note.   I won't be renewing either.   That is two strikes with closing the forum.     Roly

In days gone by, I subscribed to American Woodworker, Wood Magazine, Popular Woodworking, and Fine Woodworking. As time went by and my skills improved, I discovered that many of their articles were repeats. Now I browse the magazine at the store and if there is something interesting, I might buy it. I enjoy the forums, like this one, much more.

hat

So these notes about arbitration are a mass message, or are they related to specific complaints? I haven't got one (yet). Just curious.

Mass message.  If you use the Wood online site you are agreeing to their terms.  Roly

BTW, it wasn't the idea of arbitration being, arbitrarily, required:  it was the stupid way they did it.  It was a mass mailing, but no subtle thing.  You don't announce the real reason:  you just say how much we love our customers and you're so important, yadda yadda, and we also changed our terms and conditions, and we love you and come back soon.  Customer 101 stuff.  It indicates a real lack of smarts.  It also says the people making decisions are not very bright.  On construction projects, my favorite mantra:  when the money turns stupid, get off the project.  The email I got was definitely someone being stupid.

That is what happens when lawyers get involved.

Ah-ha...I don't use their site, I guess that's why I didn't see it.

I am still receiving the magazine but when my subscription runs out  I'm not going to renew. I was like hat at one time I had a whole herd of wood working magazine now I'm down to 1 and its going soon. I would tell a lawyer joke but I don't want to be sued.

Preston

they lost all credibility with me when they ran a story about a TS company getting sued because someone got hurt by not using the proper safety equipment...and then a few pages later they show someone using a TS without the proper safety equipment, for a cut that didn't require the safety equipment to be removed.

do you read your own articles?

"but we put a disclaimer that safety equipment is removed for photographic clarity"

no, you show unsafe practices.  dumb.

I got this notice with a request for renewal. This is a Meredith publications notice that applies to all their magazines, Seems the're going the way of Credit Card companies, making it as tough as possible  for anyone to  dispute anything they might do. I'm still getting the magazine. Apparently my subscription hasn't expired. I won't be renewing.

I didn't renew a year ago and I am getting the magazine still, got one just this week. Have a backlog of 6-10 to read.

not into reading magazines anymore.

Herb

Herb, mine lapsed a few years ago. It seemed like every issue had a correction of something from the previous issue. I have purchased and used a few of their plans, though.

As for the magazine.....the pictures are pretty.

I still get the magazine, but there are times when there is absolutely nothing of interest to me in it.

For those of you from the WOOD forums, Do you remember when Matt was testing a CNC for an upcoming review? I have still have not seen the review.

Kelly, I swear I saw one, but it wasn't much. Matt explained it would be a fairly comprehensive review...the one I saw was anything but. No mention of Matt's name either, as I recall. That said, I can't find any mention of it in the article index, nor could I find the issue it was in (though I have sent some to my nephew for his use, may have been one of those). Speaking of Matt, he hasn't been around...hope things are going well for him.
