It was 81 degrees here today and the high tomorrow will be mid 50's. We are having so strange February weather. Today's high broke a record from the 1930's. Oh well it was a nice day to be outside today and I really enjoyed it. Went out and setup the target stands from shooting this weekend. I have a couple of new toys I am wanting to run a clip or two through even if it is a bit cooler, it will be sunny!

So this past week I got a lot done in the shop, at least for me right now. Yesterday was 2 months since my TKR and i'm doing great. I got a load of lumber off the trailer and stacked at the "wood stash". I am waiting on the mill to call and pick up a load of Cedar for four tables I have to build. I also purchased a 5th wheel trailer full of cherry that I have got to do unload and load onto my trailer. I just love lumber!

I did finish a batch of cutting boards this week. Last year I purchased a dual drum sander from Grizzly and I really love it. 100 grit on the front drum and 150 on the back drum. I sanded six cutting boards front and back start to finish in about 50 minutes. I went over them will the ROS and then a nice oil down. The new drum sander took at at least a days work off me.

I really like the one in the middle with just a hint of sap wood in the walnut and the pattern it made when put together.

The other one that really stood out was this one. I like the spalting that was starting on the maple board. I positioned it close to the center with a touch around the edges. Makes for nice one of a kind boards.

Someone commented that there was never any sawdust in the floor in my pictures. So I took a picture before I cleaned up just to show there is sawdust all around even with three DC's.

Well it will clean up and that is fine with me.

So what is on your agenda this weekend? All of us here at TPW love to see your pictures and hear about your projects. We all do some of the same things and a lot of different things so it is nice to see what others are working on. You never know how you might inspire someone else to give it a try.

We are keeping two of the granddaughters this weekend so I'm not sure how much time I will get in the shop, but my plans are to make a batch of cheese boards.

Whatever your plans, have a great weekend and remember to work safely.

fine fine work John...

really fine...

as for the agenda here.. little or next to nothing..

Nice cutting boards John.  I worked on my ornaments and will continue over the weekend if I can.  Nice day today so didn't get much done.  Too nice not to go outside.  I posted some progress in this thread here.

John, I love the sap wood down the center.  As for my weekend, out 70 degree weather is gone and the 30's are back.  I'll be staining two bookcases either tomorrow or Monday and prepping to quote and build several shelving units for a local school corporation.

Not much woodworking going on for me this weekend. I have to say, though. Those are some beautiful cutting boards!

Steve

I like all of you cutting boards John!!!

Glad to hear that you are getting around and doing good. Sounds like your getting alot of work done.

Great Job!!

No haven't done those. I have made a few polka dot ones.

Wow John, those cutting boards are mind/eye boggling...very cool...You're going to have to give those donkeys a break man hauling all this wood to the stash hideout...either that or extra rounds of oats:D

Today, took my step-father to his eye appointment, then to lunch; from there went to the nursing home to visit with mom...not a good day for her at all...:(

Saturday AM, youngest grand-daughter has the county swim meet...this could be the year for middle school championship; oldest grand-daughter is going with me...likely will ditch me once we're there;)

Likely no shop time; like Ron said...our 600 & 700 weather is gone for now...low 30's for high tomorrow and maybe S**W:wacko: Rest of weekend remains open after church Sunday.

Those are awesome cutting boards. Great work, John.

As for me this weekend, tomorrow is day 11 of my captivity. I go back to the doctor's office next friday morning when they will remove the splint and stiches and fit me for a walking boot (although no weight on the foot till the end of march)

Hang in there, you'll be free before you know. Today was two months since mine. I am doing so much better than when I did my first one. You'll be back and moving around soon. Praying for speedy recovery.

Thanks John!

John, I love the cutting board with the walnut sapwood showing. I have been tinkering around with a couple maple, walnut, cherry, and mahogany designs to make my first end grain board but haven't settled on one yet.

Still on baby watch here. Will be this Friday at latest. I got all my cherry milled for the blanket chest and started messing around with layout for the front and top.

This will be the front with the bottom board being the drawer front.

Can't get over the curl on these boards.

If possible I am going to start gluing up some of these panels. Will use dowels to keep them lined up.

Also so found out this week that my boss is leaving us so I am going to make up some little parting gift for him as well. Thinking a small pencil and business card holder.

Hope all is going well...of course you'll post pictures when appropriate won't you? Blessings to you all.

More interesting (though not high class) work.   Went to help out with set construction for a play two of my grand-daughters are in, "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat."  My job was to make wheels for the pharaoh's chariot.   They make most everything of OSB and 2-by lumber, generally screwed together so it can be disassembled and parts reused for a later production.   I worked with set foreman on design and we came up with 3 layers of 3/4" OSB glued together and the circle cut on a table saw.  Went well as long as I could get my helpers to just hold the pieces on the TS, not push them in any way.    Next step will be to mark and cut out spokes and axle hole.
