February 9, 20179 yr Popular Post Spent the last couple of days fighting computer problems on a couple of machines. Rather be at the lathe, for sure! HandyDan has shown us his method for turning Inside-Out items. He has created another beauty- Here is Dan's picture tutorial, in case you missed it- http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/topic/19053-another-vase/ Another item using the Inside-Out method is in this months Woodturning OnLine. Here is a video by a young man from England- Alex Harris. Check out some of his other videos. He created a really neat router based lathe duplicator. If you have considered trying you hand a offset turning but didn't care for the idea of "turning air", Woodturning OnLine has an interesting alternative- Her's the link to the article by John Calver- http://www.thamesvalleywoodturners.com/docs/EccentricVaseProcedure.pdf How do you sign your turnings? Here's a method that might work for you. This was written by Mike Vickery- http://www.distinctiveturnings.com/tutorials/SigningYourWoodturnings.pdf I'm really not a fan of painting a turning. I have used it to add some highlights, however. I saw this video of a painted platter. It does look kinda cool- Safe Turning
February 9, 20179 yr Thanks Lew. The painted platter is pretty but I also am not too hot on paint, stain yes. Also seems like a steep learning curve to get results.
February 9, 20179 yr Thanks for the nod Lew. I see you have spent your free time well again finding us some nice videos to view and learn from. Thank you.
February 9, 20179 yr Yet another week of research of interesting techniques and possibilities. You wood spinners are an amazing group.
February 9, 20179 yr Glad I don't have a lathe. This way I feel good seeing all this neat stuff you guys make. If I had a lathe , I would feel bad I couldn't make as good looking projects and be ashamed of showing all my goof ups. LOL Herb

I still do a little flatwork on mostly jigs and solutions to storage problems , but turning just brings me to life. Results are faster than building a desk or bookcase.

That is what I have heard before that once you start turning it is addictive. A whole new world. Herb

February 10, 20179 yr Author Almost instant gratification! Unless, of course, you get into segmented turning; then it's delayed gratification.
