Popular Post steven newman
Well, since the Storage Dresser is now done, time to start the next stage of the remodel. Moving day, day 1... Cleaned all my stuff off all the appliances down here. So, where did all the stuff go? Top drawer filled right up, and it even closes.....ooh, ah! Second drawer down is almost filled up, and it also closes... Eh, not quite full, yet? Will have to work on that, I guess. Fourth drawer down is empty, at the moment. Bottom drawer has the "Book of Auger Bits" and not much else...I still want to be able to MOVE this thing.....as for the top? This will have to do, for now...... Monday< I'll see about getting a couple friends to haul that old dryer out, and to the Salvage Yard. Last time, one of these brought just over $9..... Then I can slide the dresser over, and into the spot the dryer was in. Then, we'll see what else needs moved, cleaned, put away... HARO50, Harry Brink, Fred W. Popular Post lew
I'd say keep those moving guys around long enough to help you move the cabinet into place! HARO50, Chips N Dust, Grandpadave52 and 3 others

Popular Post steven newman
Well...they are old enough( barely) that maybe the offer of a 6-pack of cold ones...... may speed things up? Have a dozen of those plastic handled "butt" chisels...about half of which are Stanleys.....Have a pile of scrap sitting around, doing nothing at the moment.....Might see about a way to store them in something wood? A friend from Columbus stopped by today.....I fix up a jack plane of hers, and we checked out her Stanley 45. Figured out which bolt goes where on her's. I traded one of my #3 smoothers, for one of her "Basket Cases" planes. Took a while this evening, but... iron was bent ( now straightened) Bolt for the lever cap was MIA ( new bolt, in new threads) Chipbreaker was bent a bit too much....32 oz Ball Pean hammer "adjusted" it. Plane will now take shavings. Sold at Sears as a Craftsman #4. Good thing she brought along a dozen Donuts.....would never had had enough energy, otherwise..... Will see what I can do about all those wayward chisels..... Chips N Dust, Grandpadave52, Harry Brink and 2 others

Popular Post steven newman
Ok, plans got changed just a bit, this morning. The "good dryer" quit. Motor ran, the rest of drive train didn't. More we worked on it, the more broken stuff inside was found, have the weight was from it being plugged up. We decided to salvage a few good spares, and scrap the rest. Dragged all that out, and up to the backyard, awaiting a trip to Sims Salvage Yard tomorrow morning. Slid the old dryer over into that spot, after a major clean up operation went down ( almost 2 trash bags full) hooked it up, turned it "ON"...it works like new!?!?... Been cleaning the sheet metal up. The corner to the left is where the drain is located, was full of junk. No longer blocked, now. Took two of us to slide the dresser into it's new home.. Old 5 gal. paint tubs are going outside. Floor has been swept clean. Ran out of trash bags before I could start on this mess, though.. Might need a LARGE one? There is also a pile of stuff right beside the bottom of the stairs....The Boss has Dereed that it will also been removed. Main thing right now? At least the area I work in, is nice and clean. Next up? Well, I have a pile of chisels just sitting in an old box.....maybe build a new home for them? p_toad, Fred W. Popular Post steven newman
Ok, in regards to the dryer we scrapped out this morning....Seal at the back of the drum was shredding. An idler pulley, and bracket, was just laying in the bottom of the dryer , where it went? Parts of the pulley were MIA, as well. Vent tube from the drum to the exhaust pipe....plugged solid. Belt was shredded. Motor does run nicely....not sure IF I can get it to fit the old lathe... We kept the cord, in case the next dryer had the "wrong" style end. I salvaged the heater core, and sensors, just in case. Found a $1.84 in change in the linty mess in the bottom of the metal cabinet of the dryer. . Reused the connections to the dryer vent.....and fastened everything in place. No leaks. We also moved the washer towards the dryer, less strain on the washer's 120v plug. Cleaned all the mess from under the old dryer, wall behind it was coated with lint. I even found a Corner Clamp in the mess under the dryer. There were two 5 gal. paint buckets, one is going outside, the other will follow later. even the Boss was down there, moving a broom around. There is actually room for three people down there. Need to go and buy a few trash bags, the ones the city will pick up on Trash Days.....IF we can find out where they are sold...and in stock. have a bunch more to haul up the stairs. Monday Morning, I'll haul the scrap metal to the salvaged yard.....might get enough for a McD's Breakfast..for me? Until then, I think I'll just sit down and take things easy....tired for some reason. HARO50
Hey... the money from the scrap yard, added to the $1.84 should at least get you a large coffee! John steven newman, Cal and Fred W. Hargis Jr
Popular Post steven newman
While hauling the cabinet of the dryer to the van this morning.....rattle, rattle....more change came out. @ $ 90 GT.......wasn't going to get a whole lot for 80 pounds of "shredder iron" ( $3.21), but, at least I am NOT having to pay the city to haul it away from the curb...at $15.00! Went out and found a few trash bags......but, since I try not to work in the shop on Mondays....things can wait til tomorrow. p_toad, Chips N Dust, lew and 3 others

steven newman
Actually, a Double Quarter Pounder, with cheese. Had to provide my own Mountain Dew, as McD's doesn't sell Dew. Kind of an Up-date: This be the floor drain for the entire basement. You can also see the shim I had to add to one leg of the dresser. Uneven floors... When you get to the bottom step, this is what you will see. Cleaning supplies on the bandsaw, for now. Yes, that light IS that bright ( brighter than the owner?) By Order/Decree of The Boss, this pile will have to be hauled up and out to the trash. Period. Added a Keeper to a shelf's edge, to keep things from walking off the edge...can't always count on a layer of shavings to break their fall.. Calling these things The orphans. Still trying to find a home for them. How many can you identify? Pine scraps.....burn pit? Or...a box for these? Not even sure how many are in there....Maybe build a box to hide these in? I usually do not work in the shop on Mondays, just checking out what can go where, right now. May have to bag & carry tomorrow, in the rain... Fred W. steven newman
Test fit of the top/shelf for the bench. There is a support on the end down by the vise. Haven't attached anything else. Just trying to see what fits, and what doesn't fit....work in progress... Grandpadave52
Alright, now you're just showing off and getting way too organized... Keep it up and I'll never be able to find anything in your shop. Just messing with you...clever idea and good utilization of your space, although you're gonna have to leave someplace for "Shop Cat" to hide & sleep.. Popular Post steven newman
Top is attached, back is on the dresser part. Witch's Brew is now stinking up the shop.. Hard to get this in one shot. Back is done.. Cleats to attach the top, in case I ever want to expand this thing.. That way I can add on to this case, someday.... Of course, I would get one cleat on the wrong side of the support post....oh well....will let the smelly Witch's Brew dry for a day ...or three....while I figure out what the next project will be... p_toad, HARO50, Chips N Dust and 3 others
