Here is another inside out turned vase.  I used some brass components found at the thrift store and polished on the lathe.  It is about eight inches overall and the wood is Poplar.  Used a different window design but think a wider window would show the brass insert better.  I got a small photo booth in the tools I bought at auction but is was a bit too small for this vase.

Thanks Lew and Kelly.  The base is a brass container I found at the thrift store.  It had a lid I may use on another one.  I flipped it bottom side up since the bottom was flat.  The fourth picture shows the shape the best.  It is held to the wood with a brass screw.

What I am seeing is funky reflection so I was not sure if it was brass or some clear plastic. Either way, it looks awesome!

Nice marriage of materials Dan, you've got inside out turning down pat!

Steve

really like your work Dan...

bar none...

That makes quite a bud vase. I cannot even see the glue line.

Looks very nice. Your design is well blended and balanced.

I do thrift store gleaning too. I have found exotic wood and some nice brass pieces that I have used in projects.

That's what Shakespeare said

"A rose is a rose is a rose" and variants has been contrasted with Shakespeare's "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet". The sentence was heavily promoted by Stein's life partner Alice B. Toklas; for example, she sold plates with the sentence going all the way around.

Best one yet Dan...I would never have guessed poplar with the finish and grain...

You've got a great vision for your thrift store finds to re-purpose and enhance your turnings...

Very well done sir!
