PSA Lee Valley Speical Purchase

Featured Replies

They arrived yesterday. They are VERY heavy duty. They have more weight than my Kregs of the same size.

They will be put to use today.

BTW, they're made in Tiawan. Nonetheless, I'm happy with the purchase...especially the price.

Good to hear, Lee Valley's reputation says intact.

You can buy them at Harbor Freight for $5.99. I have some I bought for welding and other things and they are just as heavy duty as any other brand I have used.

Appreciate the report Gene.

Just looked at the pic in their circular. They look identical. I'm 45 miles from the closest store. The next time I'm down there, I'll take look. If they are the same...well, it never hurts to have extras.

Thanks for the heads up, Ron. I'll definitely be looking at those 10" ones.

Notice that they do not have pads on the business end.  I believe These were primarily designed for welding ground clamps and do not have pads. However you can use a filler board to to avoid any damage

No, I didn't look close enough. For my uses, that is a deal killer.

I don't know what your use is but the camps that were shown in my first post have a flat doohickey on the ends. I've use these kind of clamps in wood working for 30 years or more. No pads were ever and issue.

Richard, it was the bigger ones at HF that had no pads. The Lee Valley set I recieved have pads.

All the tool tables I use have webs and rigging wooden pads to fit is just too much hassle. I've tried using the padless Kregs and they slip on the metal, no matter their tightness. The Lee Valley clamps work well under those tables.

Dan I agree with you for Harbor Freight's vise grip looking type are not stamped with any name which are cheaper than these here in cost. We will see  if LV stooped that low. Hard to believe there is no name somewhere. I use this type all the time but I do have Peterson or Irwin only.

Looking in a Harbor Freight catalog that came yesterday it shows 11" swivel pad locking pliers priced for 5.95  #39535 60820   I don't think they have a name imprinted on them either. This shows regular price, no sale price.

Richard the issue with the cheap brands is the locking device. Most won't stay locked when exerting lots of pressure...

IMHO, it all depends on what you'e content with and what you can afford.

The Harbor Freight clamps are stamped with the name Pittsburgh. I have had mine for a few years. I have clamped them from medium to as hard as I can squeeze the handles. Never had a problem.
