i have designed a rifle shooting bench for the local gun range, have made a prototype so far, to get dimensions worked out, will be making at least 4 in the coming week to fill out the newly expanded rifle range.

and remember the 4 basic safety rules:

1. Treat all guns as loaded

2. Keeps guns pointed in a safe direction at all times

3. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire

4. Know your target and what is beyond.

Pretty hefty bench!

Do they get moved out of the weather when not in use?

They will be in northern New Mexico, pretty dry place. All lumber is pressure treated, including the CDX plywood. They'll be fine. They might get a roof over them next year.

Plan to make 4 tomorrow.

Heavy is good for rifle benches. I know from experience.

Nice plan.  Sturdy is good.

and yes, i know i left the tags on more than one piece of lumber.  feel free to visit the range, remove one or more tags as a memento, and then enjoy your day shooting.

i know how to do fine woodworking, and this isn't that.  these are sturdy, functional, weather resistant items that will serve their purpose just fine.

Nice job DAB gives me ideas for my club range. Our firing positions are enclosed, a bit noisy but good in bad weather.

using pressure treated lumber and PT CDX plywood, as well as 3-1/2" and 2" long deck screws, each bench cost about $85.  two of us built these 4 in 3 hours.

now you can budget too.

They look great along with durable.
