both items just from a pic.  they aren't perfect, but for a first attempt, they aren't bad.  not sure what to finish the little one with yet.  still need to find a piece of drift wood/rustic wood for a base for the large ray.

 

recipient said to send a bill.....i have no idea how i'd price this.  i did it for fun and for the challenge it presented, as i'm between larger projects.  figured if it didn't turn out, it's just scrap wood (C/D ply i had laying around) that i could burn.

 

hint to aspiring woodworkers:  learn how to work from a picture.  that's the same way i built our coffee table last year.  from a pic in a catalog.

 

likewise the sofa table, from a picture i saw.

Nice work DAB, and good advice. I don't think I've ever built anything from a plan. A picture or two, a rough sketch with dimensions, and Bob's yer uncle!
