December 27, 20169 yr Good morning all. Was working on some fluted columns for my daughters house yesterday with a Bosch 1617EVS router. I turned the router over (plate up) and swapped out the bit. Now when I plug in the router and go to switch it on, it does nothing. I know there is power getting to the tool and can state with 100% certainty there is no way this machine should be worn out. So two things; I'm now in the market for a new router so any thoughts on a good replacement? I've been happy with Bosch in the past, but based on this router not sure I would buy another one of their products. Second, anyone have experience sending in one of these to be fixed? Is it expensive? I really don't want to spend $100 plus to get this one fixed when a new tool can be purchased for a bit more. Thanks. Edited November 24, 20178 yr by Ron Dudelston tags added
December 27, 20169 yr Gee, mine is 5 yrs old and frequently used. No problems. Sounds like a loose wire I've never had to open mine up, but I would if I had that problem. Might be a simple fix. Likely a switch issue.
December 27, 20169 yr Does it make any noise? Is something hung up? I have two of the 1617 and LOVE THEM
December 27, 20169 yr Author Nope, no noise or anything. In fact, when I first turned it on after the bit change I had to confirm I had plugged it back in. Am out looking for a Bosch service center now to see what the process is to get it fixed.
December 27, 20169 yr call Bosch tech support 1st... 877-267-2499 tell them what you told us... I have decades old (to new) abused Bosch routers... no complaints... Bosch tools have been very good to me....
December 27, 20169 yr Author Thanks Stick. I did go to the Bosch website and they have a chat option. Got ahold of someone on the other end that noted dust can get into the switch and cause issues like I'm experiencing. They suggested using compressed air to blow any dust out around the switch and then took my address so they could send me a new switch as well just in case (sure seems like pretty good service). Not sure I want to crack open this motor to replace the switch, but it's not doing me much good as it is. Worst case, I give it a try and then have to box it up and send it in to get fixed correctly. Having the phone number will help as well. I like the router so hope it's an easy fix.
December 27, 20169 yr 27 minutes ago, Wil said: They suggested using compressed air to blow any dust out around the switch that's old mind set... use vacuum instead.. too much air forces the ultra fine dust into places you don't want it... you may have a sticking brush... changing the switch and freeing up the brush is easy... call CS/TS and talk to human in person.... Bosch customer/tech service is some of the best available...

January 3, 20179 yr Author Morning all. Quick update to on my router to wrap this up. As I had noted, the Bosch customer service person I chatted with online sent me a new switch. Based on Stick's note, I removed the top cover and was able to easily remove the old switch and put in the new one. Put it back together and it works like a champ. What was going to cost around $100 to send in and get repaired ended up costing nothing and taking about 10 minutes of time. Thanks.

January 4, 20179 yr Nice to see a company that still thinks of customer service as a "good thing" vs. "more overhead". good on them...
