December 22, 20169 yr December 21- the winter solstice- guess I should start thinking about doing some Christmas shopping. We had a beautiful sunrise and sunset today Sunrise- Sunset- Patriot member Dan posted a project he did for the kids at the Akron Children Hospital. He made a slew of these fun toys for the kids- Check out his post on this at http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/topic/18620-ball-and-cup-games/ Here are 3 short "Pro Tips" videos. First, threading wood and acrylics- Next, determining safe lathe speeds- And finally, ideas on repairing a sanding disk holder- Here's a nice video for those wishing to get into bowl turning. It's a simple but very nicely shaped small bowl Safe Turning
December 22, 20169 yr Thanks for the video links. The lathe speed video looks particularly interesting. It is a subject I have been pondering lately.

December 25, 20169 yr Popular Post Merry Christmas all! I actually can contribute a Wednesday project...and I am still posting a little late!! I took PTO this past week and after a small setback and subsequent new bearings, cord, and internal switch repair for my 1960 vintage Craftsman bench grinder, I was able to get to my lathe for A little Christmas fun. I am showing my rudimentary turning skills with this project. I was going to make one snowman just for fun and practice and to get back into the turning groove, but........as it turned out, I made one for each of of my kids, one for the wife, and decided I should complete the family so made one for me too! Two came from Mahogany scrap pattermakers scraps, three are from reclaimed Spruce? (I think) out of an old piano our church was dispatching of, and one from pine pallet blocking that I salvaged. One has a hat of Hickory, one of Osage Orange, and the rest are single species. Don't let the Mrs. know what happened to all of the orange toothpicks.
December 25, 20169 yr Author Those are really cool, Bondo! I think I'll make a few of these next year as Christmas presents for those friend who are into the craft scene.
December 26, 20169 yr Somehow I missed this earlier. Great links Lew. I really like those snowmen too. Steve
