Wednesday's Wisdom For Woodturners November 30 2016

Featured Replies

I stumbled across this weeks information thru a series of links off of Facebook. What caught my eye, at first, was the information about "negative rake" scrapers. Some time back, Patriot member @Cliff posted some information about this particular grind and its' benefits. Following the links brought me to the website of Rudolf Lopez

From his home page, you can read more about the negative rake- http://www.rudolphlopez.com/pdfs/Negative Rake Scraper Jig and Info.pdf. But as they say on late night TV- "But wait, there's more!" He has a series of articles/tutorials on turning various objects- vases, bowls, etc. Check out the site! Also there's a video on turning a "twice turned bowl"-

The video is a little long but it's an interesting concept.

A turner we feature often- Tim Yoder- just put a video of turning a lighthouse. Check out what he uses as the "lens"-

We used to swipe those things from abandoned power lines.

Also, check out around 16:30 minutes for a new sharpening gauge.

Safe Turning

Nice Lew.  More videos to fill some idle time is a good thing.  Usually learn something too.

Thanks

I watched the twice turned with Rudy Lopez.  That opens a few different possibilities.  What if the top was left as is and hollowed for a box?  Add a Lid?  Put that on my things to do list.
