Too many spiders in my shop

Featured Replies

Had an old guy that was the local trapper and all around varmint disposer.  He said the Osage Oranges would chase the spiders out but they had to fall from the tree on their own.  Don't think the tree could be climbed with all the nasty thorns in it.  I remember my dad tried them and said they got rotten and produced more gnats than a little bit.

that's more wide spread than you think...

Steve, glad the hedge apples seem to work for you.

Any hedge is at least two states away from AZ. So, I use a little Black Flag pump sprayer around base boards, doors and windows. Works well for a couple months. Then it's time to clean the shop and reapply. Haven't seen a Recluse or Black Widow in the shop since starting with the Black Flag about 3 years ago. They're still around, just not in the shop or house.

That is good to know Gene. We don't have the Black widows , might have the recluse tho. Got plenty of other kinds,

Herb

Don't mind the spiders so much they tend to take care of other bugs. The stink bugs drive me nuts. Once the weather starts to get a little cooler these guys want inside. Nothing worst than setting something down on one of these and it seems like days before you can get rid of the smell.

For those without hedge apples, that Black Flag repels/kills all sorts of insects. Not just spiders.

It doesn't stain carpet, painted or raw wood either. Good stuff.

I get the black widows in my shop and around the ooutsid - HATE THEM

  • 1 month later...

My grand parents in Texas use to call them , horse apples,  and more people use to call them Bois de Arc .  might not be the spelling but the way they pronounce it, Bow Dark

I always  heard if you boil one then drink the juice you could run the 100 yard dash in 5 seconds flat. So I know no one has ever tried it for as of now no one has ever bettered 9 seconds in the hundred

There is a huge advantage to living in a place like Ohio where it gets cold enough to freeze hard and kill a bunch of nasty critters...
