November 21, 20169 yr Popular Post Down to the detail work now.....clamped the two parts together, and planed, and sanded them to at least look like they matched just about every toy sitting there was used. Finally got all four sides done...I think. Spread around some of that SMELLY BLO to act as a seal coat.. Not a top coat, just something to seal the wood up. As for the sides? This will be the hunge side, and the "right" end of the box.....the "Latch" side? Or..it might be the other way around. Not sure just yet. Decided to just have a single bead, as two would have been a bit too "busy".....now I need to go out and get some hinges, and a latch... Waiting on the BLO to cure out, and quit smelling the shop up....
November 21, 20169 yr Your expertise with hand tools amazes me. I wish I had that patience. Your bench looks like mine....a mess but we know where everything is.
November 22, 20169 yr Author Went to the shop, had a strut to add to the lid. friction fit didn't hold, so a dab of Elmer's was used. More to correct a bowed in side, then anything else. So, since I had the lid turned over, might as well give it a coat of BLO, too.. I finally got the hinges off the old box, to recycle them on this one.. trick now is to decide which way to install them. Maybe chopped a spot for them to sit in? Something I am not the best at....or...mount them flush to the outside.. Hmmm, I like option #1 better, this time around. Gave the box a second coat....as the first had soaked into the wood. I also found a few other items to stash in this box.. Maybe I can hang these from that strut I installed? Re: Second Opinion is that it will get "scoped", to clean out a bunch of junk floating around in there. They go in, clean it all out, "sand" down a few rough spots, and call it good. beat a LONG needle in the knee every three months. Waiting on a phone call, to tell when the surgery is going to be. just an update.
November 23, 20169 yr LOML is going in to have it done in January. We know at least a half dozen people who had it done.... all are good! Hang in there. John
