November 1, 20169 yr Popular Post A couple decorative mason jar lids. These are embellished using a cheap Chinese laser engraving machine. No finish on them as they are basically learning pieces. Anyway, I have blog going on purchasing and learning to use one of these machines if anyone is interested. Steve Edited November 1, 20169 yr by Steve Krumanaker fat fingers
November 2, 20169 yr Looks great, your learning curve on that thing is great. Soon, I'd expect your own logo, laser made! I'm serious. maybe
November 2, 20169 yr You are really getting into something now. Nice job just keep expanding it. Will this work on round objects?

I may some day do a logo but when I sign it will always be by hand, even though most times no one can read my writing. LOL

Thanks Gerald and I will definitely pursue this. You're thinking along the same lines as me. The way the machine is made it's not really big enough for a rotary axis. However, my limited experience with the eggbot and now, this machine, make me believe it wouldn't be too hard to build a machine to work vessels or bowls. I've messaged with the guy who developed the software I'm using and he said it would work with a rotary axis. That's somewhere down the road and I would have to have a lot more confidence than I do at this point. I can do about four of these lids an hour so if I screw one up, no big loss. There is also a good chance I could remount the lid and turn away the mistake. A bowl or vessel that I've got a few hours in would be something I wouldn't want to screw up. Steve
November 2, 20169 yr I just finished reading your last blog entry Steve and it was very enjoyable, and congrats on getting a handle on this beast! Way to stick with it! Most men would have slinked away and stomped their feet and gone home by now after they experienced what you did with the stock software, but not you! You stuck with it and went to alternatives, my hat off to ya!
November 2, 20169 yr Now that's cool! Between the laser and your egg thingy you're getting to be quite competent with this new fangled stuff (green with jealousy).
November 2, 20169 yr Wow, this is wood-burning in an entirely different dimension..adding technology to your artisan craftsmanship has elevated your work to a whole new level.
