Is that the same work bench where the Auger book was born? Looks brand new in this picture.

One of the guys I worked with always started the day in his hobby car shop by putting tools where they belong and cleaning the shop. I though it was kinda weird at the time.  Then I took my car to be repaired to a local shop. This guy had a multiple garages at his home and the place was immaculate. No grease, no junk and nothing out of place. When I picked up my car, even thought he had several jobs going, it still looked the same. I still think it is very unusual to see a work area so clean and organized.

I always start a project with a clean, organized shop. It goes down hill from there, although I do try to clean each morning some before I continue. Other times, well.........You know:)

I just remembered that a guy that used to work for me had been a Navy airplane mechanic during Vietnam.   One of his buddies left a wrench in a jet engine one day.    Made a few spits and sparks when the pilot fired it up.

A long time ago, I had a muffler put on.   I noticed a couple of days later something was hanging down, so on the way home from work, I stopped in the shop.   The mechanic that worked on my car thanked me, he'd left a socket and universal joint on the muffler.   If I'd been a day later, he would have bought a new one from $nap-On driver.

This makes a lot of sense with all of that equipment there. I do not really know what it is, but I can only imagine what would happen is something was left in the machine, similar to the airplane mechanic. This is a quick "Did I pick up everything?" check

all my workbenches are on wheels.  very easy to move if needed.  say I want to create more space near one, or combine two into a larger bench, or.....clean the shop!  only thing that is not easily moved is the table saw and the large drill press.

I try to put tools up as I go but as someone else stated sometimes you go into firefighting mode and don't get to it right away.  I usually have a few hand tools that I know will be needed repeatedly on a project that will end up staying out.  Several of my machines are on mobile bases and will get rolled out of the way as I move through a project. Shop is trashed right now as I haven't done as much woodworking as I have yard projects this year. There has been a large accumulation of crud that needs to find a new home

I relate to that so we much be "related" :P

I've got a bench load of things that need put away.

Been doing some outdoor projects and then just set everything on the bench to put away.

I need to do that soon.

I leave everything were I stopped using it and continue this terrible practice until I can't turn around.  Then I clean up.

I don't get it.  I really expected the Bikini models to pick up after me but those brats have let me down.

Cliff they have been over here and I wish you would take them back as I cannot get anything done.....they keep putting everything away and I have to start over. Now what was I doing?

When did you sneak in and take a photo of my shop? Could have at least tidied up a little while you were here...………….
