October 23, 20169 yr Not complaining since last year I didn't get a single tomato (or anything) because the garden drowned in the early season rain that never stopped. This year I didn't get a graden in (we had just moved here) but was able to set up a tomato patch with 12 plants. Got in in very late for this area, so didn't get tomatoes until the end of August. The weather again screwed me over this year, no rain during the summer (I watered) and a fall that has been a little unusual. So we got tomatoes for about 6-7 weeks, and no they're gone. For the record: I'm a burger lover and see 2 things that should be national holidays: the arrival of Vidalia onions and the arrival of homegrown tomatoes. The day the tomatoes go should be a national day of mourning. But that's just me. They came so slowly and left so quick this year I only got to make one pot of chili with homegrown. But we did have some tomatoes, making it a lot better than last year! Edited October 23, 20169 yr by Fred W. Hargis, Jr

October 23, 20169 yr I with you on this one Fred. Feel the same way about home grown tomatoes, could make a meal just out of them. Around here it wasn't a very season for some reason. Got a few but not near what we're used to. We pulled our plants last weekend and I do miss them too. Steve
October 23, 20169 yr Ate at least one tomato a day for the last three months. Last two weeks been sparse. I guess I should pull the tomato plants. I also did an ear of corn a day but did not grow it. Good stuff and sad the season is over.
October 23, 20169 yr Tomatoes and sweet corn are two things I won't eat unless they are homegrown. I guess I was spoiled growing up on a farm. My mom would get a pot of water boiling, then send me out to pick and shuck corn for supper.
October 24, 20169 yr We have tried to grow a garden......the local GoundHOG thinks it is HIS dinner table. Tried watermelons last year, groudhog said they were great.... Living in town, we can't shoot him. He is almost the size of most of the dogs around here.
October 24, 20169 yr My tomatoes did not do very well this year either. Too hot & dry. l kept them watered, but just no flowers & no fruit. Had a heck of a pepper crop though, sweet banana & bells galore. SWMBO makes a great banana pepper & Italian sausage soup. She was making a batch about every other week and freezing it up. I will be enjoying it most of the winter. Looks like we will have at least one more picking of them. Cal Edited October 24, 20169 yr by clhyer
