OK, so if anyone thought I was exaggerating my Koi problem, here's one I just fished out of the pond this morning (floater). By far this is the largest one we've seen yet, you can see the scale; almost 25" long. I didn't weigh it (I try not to touch them) but I'd guess 6#. BTW, this fish was completely gold while alive, the color seems to fade fast as they die.

Fred, a friend of mine actually raises koi on his farm. He sells them, too. 

They're just another carp, as far as I'm concerned.

My uncle, an avid fisherman, had a recipe for "cedar plank carp" on the grill.

 

Get some red cedar, usually 1x8 or 1x10, long enough to hold the fillet of carp.

Soak the cedar in salt water for two hours.

Lay the scaled and skinned carp fillets skin side down on the plank.  Spread with brown mustard.  Drizzle with olive oil.

Grill over indirect heat for 20-30 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 135 degrees.

Remove from the grill, carefully remove the fillets.

Throw the fillets out and eat the plank.

I've seen them go for $2,000 plus. Just another gold-plated carp.
