October 6, 20169 yr Looks like hurricane Matthew will affect the south east coast from Florida to North Carolina. Patriot members in that area, please be safe and take the necessary precautions for yourselves and your families. As we have been doing, lately, we are once again casting the turning spot light on one of our members. This week it is "Smallpatch"- Jessie. He turns on both a standard lathe and a legacy lathe. He recently posted a picture of some of the "teapots" he makes. I snagged this from one of his posts- You can see more of Jesse's work at- http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/profile/4402-smallpatch/ We are running out of turners to spotlight. There must be some members who haven't posted their turning pictures. Post your projects so we can brag about what you do! Patriot member Gerald gave us a heads-up on an excellent series of turning videos. There are 34 videos in the collection and cover a wide variety of turning techniques. The link to the Vimeo site is https://vimeo.com/woodturning/videos Most turners are familiar with Richard Raffan. He is a prolific author of turning publications. Many turners look to his examples of how to grind a bowl gouge. Recently I found a set of videos that Mr. Raffan demonstrates turning a bowl from start to finish. Part #1 Part #2 I did a little experimenting on a Christmas present idea. Turned this little scoop from a scrap of Butternut. I think I'll glue up some walnut or maybe walnut/maple combos and turn a few more. It's about 6" long and 2" in diameter. Safe Turning.
October 6, 20169 yr Nice post. I like the teapots Jess makes. Your scoop turned out well. That is another item I have intended to try but not yet. The bowl videos are good. I haven't done a bowl in a while is a good refresher course. Thanks for the info.
October 6, 20169 yr Jess's work is spectacular, I am trying put a name to his style of woodworking. Full of curls, colors, and antiquity, I can't put my finger on it. Almost Victorian in wood.
October 6, 20169 yr Patch's creativity is remarkable and one of a kind. Shows not only in his woodworking, but the golf course, his windmills and so on. The scoop is very nice Lew and especially the Butternut...the maple/walnut versions would be a really big hit IMHO. Looking forward to seeing those.
October 6, 20169 yr Always love looking at Patch's work. The creativity and imagination is wonderful.
October 6, 20169 yr Another good edition, the teapots are amazing. Like Dan, it's been a while since I turned a bowl. I'll have to watch those videos. Steve
