Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers! September 26th, 2016

Ok folks, gotta do a quick hit and run this morning, running a tad late for work on my end!

The big question of the day, what did you all get done over the weekend and what have you planned for the week ahead? We want to know how your doing in your shops, homes and gardens. Heck, even if you did nothing, let us know how you did that! Couch potato, we all do it from time to time, we had some pretty good games on this weekend and here in the west coast we got to say goodbye to one of our nations greatest baseball announcers Vin Scully, he announced Dodger games since 1950. Somewhat of a local hero in our parts.

I was in the shop wrapping up some Shaker Chair Jigs,

And later yesterday I was on the couch at a coffee table getting a couple chair templates wrapped up and ready for cutout.

So, with that, what yall got going on!

Thanks for being here and have a safe week ahead.

And we can't forget our eye candy image of the week. A portable band saw! Not so portable is it.

Good Monday Morning!

No wood working over the weekend but we did have a great little road trip to OH, to celebrate my brother's and his wife's 50th anniversary and we had a really nice time!

However, just before we left home I got a call asking if I could do the demo for our woodturning club meeting this coming Sunday. I like a little more time to put a demo together but said I would do it. So, I'll be working on that this week instead of playing with the eggbot or turning more ornaments for the Christmas season. It's my plan to demo making a collet handle for 1/2" gouges.  They are $50-$150.00  to purchase but it's pretty easy to make one for about ten dollars. So, putting together a material list, notes, tool list, etc. etc. I will turn samples to different stages of completion in case of a misadventure or unexpected design opportunity.

Saturday finished up mowing and got some much need maintenance done to the front mount mower along with chauffeur service for oldest grand-daughter. Got a few minutes in on some tool refurb. After church yesterday, a couple of quick errands, then on our way home my wife & I stumbled on to an Open House showing of a property in our general area. It wasn't busy, so we took a look (for daughter-SIL). A little small for the six of them, but has potential plus an awesome 16x22 separate garage/workshop, and a couple of other out-buildings on 1.5 acres +/-.

Watched the Colts and became very frustrated not just from the game but the few players from San Diego & Indy that disrespected our National Anthem & flag. Colts did manage not to lose the game. Grandkids played outside in the lawn sprinklers since temps were near 90, sunny and humid. Late afternoon & early evening was interrupted with T-storms ending all outside activity.

Today hope to get a little shop time in since it is much cooler with a light drizzle. Back on some tool refurbs just to clean up some projects. Also time to begin putting outdoor stuff away and prepping for winter.

While the band-saw is really cool, the thing that grabbed my eye was the small Deutz diesel that powers it. Appears to have exposed push rods and maybe even open rockers arms/upper valve train and can't be sure, but possibly a manual pet-cock for a compression release to start. Sorry, once a gear head, always a gear head! Thanks for finding and sharing that.

read a book.. fed.. napped.. fixed the munchies.. watched the dog fish.. snacked..

that count???

Well gang, I'm back from a whirlwind trip to Alabama.  We drove in Saturday and I learned not to go to a Chik fil A in Bowling Green Kentucky when Western Kentucky University has a home game.  Added nearly an hour to the trip.  Anyway, it was a great week helping my good friend John Moody woth his shop expansion and then driving down to Birmingham to visit my older brother.  For the record Dave, I thought the Colts were going to go the route of Notre Dame and give the game away.

This week I need to build 3 or four walnut flag cases.  My stock is down to one. A little resting might also be in order.  If the weather clears, I need to sight in my new AR15.  Enjoy the first week of fall folks.

I got the wood I had delivered last week into the wood shed. I still have a little left over to get stacked out side and cleanup all of the "extra chips" - they get burned too. Worked in the shop in the afternoons - got the under router table storage cut out and dry fit to get the upper drawer dimensions (to make sure they do not interfere with the lift).  I was not planning on putting edge banding of the front edges, but in my haste yesterday afternoon, I put the rabbet for the back panel on the front edge of 1 side    On a plus note, I was able to start "breaking in" the new RT and lift - Very Nice  (especially compared to what I had)

This week - finish up the cabinet.

A little rust hunting was done.    Drove the GrandBRATS back to their own house....peace and quiet, again.

Raining outside this morning, makes it a bit rough to Pee off the back porch ( bathroom was busy...)

Depending on how "bored" I get,  might try to clean a tool or three up...

Trying to "con" a neighbor's kid into mowing the yard.....may have to resort to outright Bribery....

Went downtown to the Youngstown Flea.  It is a flea market where all vendors must make what they sell.  Lots of jewelry, clothes, knitting but not much in the way of wood working.  One pen vendor and one bowl vendor.  There was a candle vendor selling soy candles scented and poured into canning jars.  I talked to her and we are supposed to get together and see about selling some of my candle holders.

Went to lunch with my brothers and sisters and their spouses.  Had a great time catching up and BS-ing.  The meal was good too.

Spent yesterday cleaning up in the metal shop.  Had tools spread out from getting the band saw set up.  All in all a good weekend.

Got in a little shop time before we had a series of very short power interruptions. Rather than deal with that .... running saws with stuttering power is hard on the nerves...I decided to play on the computer and watch TV.

That didn't happen. Seems the power interruptions had screwed up the WIFI router.

Being the tech genius that I am, I spent the rest of the day trying to get the gadgets to recognize the router. No joy. Gave up, went to bed.

This morning at 04:00 an epiphany struck. "Call the internet provider, you idiot"...

Did that. They reset the passwords and now, everything is hunky dory. Phyllis has TV, I have internet and all's right with the world....at least, our part.

Today is a medical day, flu shot and PSA test. Then, pick up the newly upholstered Morris chair and ottoman. This day is shot. Tomorrow is another day.

Friday my wife Tami and I headed to get her x-rays done before seeing her hip surgeon for a check-up for her 6 week post-op from her total hip replacement. Everything looked good and she has now been turned loose to start her physical therapy as well as being able to drive. The doctor says that she should be cleared to go back to work as a teacher working with her K-1 Moderate-Severe Autism class. Bounced around doing some errands on Saturday and then went to church for an event in the evening for an event. While at church on Sunday I came down with a bad migraine, so I was crashed on the couch for the rest of the day after taking migraine meds and watched/dozed through the NASCAR/Baseball/Football for the rest of the day. The migraine finally went away later in the afternoon so I felt restless so I went out for a walk which really felt good. My wife and I went and saw the new movie out "The Magnificent 7" on Friday afternoon after her doctor appointment. We really enjoyed it. It is a re-make of the original 1960 movie. So if you like a good "Western Shoot 'em up" movie, this is a great movie to see. Lots of humor and cowboy action throughout.

Allen,

Glad Tami's recovery is uneventful. Thanks for the movie review, too. I wondered if it was going to be good.

How does one test pressure sensitive adhesive, and how is the procedure considered 'medical'?

I spent part of the weekend working on the Photography Blog, Finally decided to make an addition to my side table so I could find notepad and pencil w/o rummaging. Work continues on Christmas ornaments. Most of Sunday was in church. Now the week starts and got a call to finish some tapes at the extracurricular job (anything other than WW is extra) since I would like to  buy some shooting and turning supplies guess I will work 1 day this week at the extracurricular job......it is the only one that pays.

Oh by the way y'all be sure to look at the Photography Blog and give me some feedback.....what do you want next.  Better yet show me your setup.

Thanks for the review  Allen...I've seen the original several times...never seems to get old. All of the previews I've seen for the new one are really good. May not make it to the theater, but will be a rental for sure!
