September 23, 201610 yr Popular Post comment_75622 First, I wish to thank one of the members here who was on the old Handyman Club of America. I won't mention his name in the event I get kicked off. LOL Anyway, I used to post at the old forums as swampgator, a name given to me by my Tennessee uncles. I guess I'm still a hillbilly that just slide south in the mud and sand. I see several former members of the old Handyman Club posted here. I see improvements in your skills as well. Good for you. I live in Pensacola, FL USA, retired from the Department of the Navy as a civil servant, have a couple of Shopsmiths and a good collection of hand tools and hand power tools. My wife has MS, requires much of my time, plus a couple of grandchildren who need me several days a week. It is a joy to make toys for them. I may not be on here very much, it will depend on the daily schedules. Too many irons in the fire. Hope to get aquainted and assist wherever I can. Have a super weekend. September 23, 201610 yr comment_75623 Steve welcome aboard. Glad to have someone with such a collection of tools. I know what it can be like with MS. My mother lived 23 years with it, the last 12 in a nursing home. Report

There's even other Shop-Smith owners here too. Can't wait to see some of your BS boxes, toys and other projects too. I know you've got a great archive of projects. Pictures almost post themselves here! Whoever invited you ,,,if they let me er "them" hang around, you're a shoe-in! They love donuts here too! Speaking of donuts, as a new member particularly from Florida, it is your day to provide them! Report

September 24, 201610 yr comment_75784 Steve welcome aboard and it's good to have someone that speaks fluent "y'all" here. I hope you enjoy the site and look forward to sharing with you in the forums. I'm just a bit North of you in the North West corner of Alabama. Glad to have you. Report
September 30, 201610 yr Author Popular Post comment_76590 Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome. I have never been on a forum that the moderators and administrators also welcome you. This is going to be a great site. As you can tell, I don't get much time, but today and yesterday I did. A Shopsmith makes a pretty good lathe, but I would prefer a slower start speed than the 750 rpms it starts with. I've only lost one piece of wood and that was yesterday. Not a good feeling and the log just jumped right off and onto the ground. Thank each of you for your kind comments and welcome. Gerald, I totally feel the pain you experienced. I would have brought donuts, but our local Krispy Kreme is closed for some reason. Imagine, if you will! Anyway, I'm going to browse and maybe comment if I can be helpful. Thanks, again. Florida history, Florida territory went all the way to the Mississippi River and included Baton Rouge. Transporters along the river would stay on the western side to escape the Indians there. The Indians were reported to be thieves stealing the cargo headed to and from New Orleans. New Orleans was not part of the Florida Territory. How did Alabama and Mississippi get part of the Florida territory? They became states before Florida did and took sufficient parts to have seaports as part of their states. After those states took their parts, the Indians in Louisiana had some PowWows and raised some fuss about not being part of Florida. This piece of information is covered up these days. I remember this information from 1961 as an eighth grader. It's easier to remember than things that happened today. Steve, the old FlGatorwood Report

October 3, 201610 yr Author comment_77115 Hey, Grandpa Dave, Thank you for the invitation to join. I'm looking around and need to learn some more, but I think with time, I'll find what I am interested in. Oops! I was not going to tell that. I do like the people here already. I just need to learn how to send private messages. If SWMBO will quit interrupting, I will get it. Getting slower as I near 70. LOL Thanks for the heads up and all. I am going to enjoy this place. Steve, the old FLGatorwood Hopefully no one will hold it against you that I was the culprit and they'll let you stay! I knew you would love this site... For PM's a couple of ways...hover your cursor over individual's "handle within a thread and a basic bio and mini menu shows...move down to Message, click, then you can start PM. Top of Home page, Right side, click on the envelope to begin message...from there works pretty much like old HCOA site only better! I'll send this to you in PM also... Take care...I'll get an email back to you soon. Report
October 3, 201610 yr Author comment_77117 Hey, Larry, Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I am glad you spoke. I was thinking today that I need to learn how to send messages, so I will continue poking until I learn. It can't be that hard. I see Al B. and Gene Howe here. I know Gene from Shopsmith forum. This is a great group of folks. I look forward to spending time here. I am so happy to see you here. You have too much talent for the other site. Steve, the old FlGatorwood Report
