September 21, 20169 yr I got a great idea about turning some of the plastic from a cutting board. I'd layer it with a soft wood and see what it looked like. What a mess. The plastic was VERY soft and the waste came off in long strings. Long strings that bunched up on the work and got in places you don't want it to get. I had to stop/start many times. I had a mess to clean up and did it by hand, that stuff would plug a vac. I have decided that I won't turn any more of it. The end result looks like an ad for ATT
September 21, 20169 yr Been there. I cut PVC pipe pieces to fit snug in an air filter end and had the same problem. With the power feed on the matel lathe the ribbons were continuous so I sucked them into a shop vacuum as the lathe was running. In your case, another person would be needed to follow your tool movements.
September 21, 20169 yr Wonder how that would look with a light inside. You could just drill a hole and put led in it.
September 21, 20169 yr Author I don't think it is transparent enough to see it. I've with with Hard clea rplastic, its an entirely different experience. It turned out ok .
September 21, 20169 yr Author The plastic came from a floor lamp my wife tossed. The metal pole had 3 sections and half inch plastic disk separators. I saved them for a long time and used a couple to make ornaments. I'm always looking at wood and other material thinking, "I wonder how that would look turned round"
September 23, 20169 yr Author I finished the one of plastic cutting board and my wife said that the colors were all wrong. The only option that I have is to sand down, by hand, the soft wood between the plastic and stain them.................and so it goes
