I posted some pictures of the pieces. Here is the glue up and the final ornament. I turned some Maple for the top and bottom, but it didn't look right to me, so I went with Walnut. My biggest critic loved it, if she is happy........so am I:)

Sometimes I will turn down a mistake, just to see what it could be:D Maybe I can save a tiny part to add to another project. I hate to toss beautiful wood. I guess I'm a wood junkie:lol:

John, the county in Ohio where I lived has a large court house that is very old, built around 1900. I have been there many times . The entry doors are HUGE and are be 8/9 feet high and were painted black. I always wondered why they would put metal doors on an entry like that. I saw a janitor and asked him about those metal doors. He just laughed and said "Metal, that's not black paint,  those are black walnut from Germany"  I'd love to have some of that
