September 7, 20169 yr Popular Post I have been waiting several years to do this chess set for my grandson. Well I finally got started last week. These are the pawns completed turning today. Plan credit goes to Larry Jenkins . He turned his set on a metal lathe .
September 7, 20169 yr Nice! Is that the same Larry Jenkins who is a member of the Patriot Woodworker?
September 7, 20169 yr Well done Gerald! Anybody can turn one of something. Turning several nearly identical pieces is impressive! Steve

September 8, 20169 yr Author No duplicator . If you look closely at the white one you will see. I got better when I got to the walnut. I had 6 calipers set to different measurements to get them as close to the same as I could. After 5 or 6 you get to where you can eyeball some of the areas.

September 8, 20169 yr I used a duplicator once I wanted to see how good it was. I made this stool out of aromatic Cedar. Have not used it since. My lathe is a mini and there isn't too much duplication I can use it for.
September 8, 20169 yr Author Nice looking stool. I have mad a couple stools with cedar seats, just too soft to hold up to regular use.

September 8, 20169 yr Very nice Gerald. It is funny how we really don't notice the difference until it is pointed out to us. I think my eye always sees the nice forms and smooth surface and is pleased with that. Nice project.

We're always our own worse critics. I'm in awe of what you all can do with spinning wood. Nicely done thus far Gerald. Looking forward to following this project journey to completion.
