Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers! September 5th, 2016

Featured Replies

Unfortunately this Monday topic is very short folks. I'm typing this from my smart phone, wrecked my back and neck yesterday, and I'm down for the count.

So here goes, what did you get done in your shops over the weekend, and what do you have planned for the week ahead! We love to see your images and hear your plans!

Have a wonderful week ahead.

Didn't get anything done as I was out of service.  Pulled something in my chest.  Didn't hurt bad but I know from experience not to push it.  Took it easy a few days and I am good to go now.

Man, I'm gonna quit hanging out with you guys.  You may be contagious.  Shopwise, I need to build a few walnut flag cases in between all my other civic duties.  I chair the local election board and it is getting busy.

Got the outside painted on the new wall - need to get a pic of it. Worked inside on a few jigs. Well have to see what the rest of today brings

Recovering from all the WALKING the last two days.......way out of shape, good thing it wasn't a Volksmarsch sort of thing....Cleaned a few tools from the weekend's buys.   Need to put the final coat of finish on a small box.    Monday is it?  Humbug, hate Mondays.....

Tool sharpening, cleaning and organizing and getting ready for winter when there will be alot more shop time. Our summer was so hot here in New England I am so ready for some cool air.

John,

Take it easy sore backs and necks are nothing to mess with. If you can get comfortable- stay there.

I'm gonna try to get started on that special cutting board.

It's Monday already? Hmmm...still seems like Saturday. ;) Sorry to read of your plight John..Rest up...got a little tool refurbing done this past week on a Stanley 1225 egg-beater and started on a couple of planes plus a couple other items. Nothing too big.

Remainder of Saturday...eerrr...Monday ie today, plan to smoke some pork ribs and replace front brake pads/rotors on my daughters mini-van, then continue with on-going mow-a-thon to try and recover the yard after end of August monsoons hit. Take care of yourself!

Geez John, how did you rack yourself up like that? Bar fight or bungee jumping?

I wish it was that dramatic guys, at least It would of been worth it!

Sitting at the PC too long, in a bad chair I am thinking. I was fine last night when I turned in for the evening, but awoke around 3am tight as a banjo.

Two years ago I made two of  the 3-in-1 bed, the crib version.  Now the two tykes (g-kids; cousins) are ready for the Big Kid Beds (skipped the toddler version:  wouldn't have used it enough to make the effort worthwhile).  So I'm making the rails to convert the former crib sides into headboard/footboard.  Weather about 70 at sunrise today.  Summer almost over.  Y'all do regular back exercises, right?!  When I don't, I suddenly get muscle pulls and lameliness that remind me why I need them EVERY DAY.

Gene, I'm thinking that this has something to do with a blindfold, duct tape and a bungee cord.

Friday night's desserts were homemade coconut cream pie, Dutch chocolate cream pie and a concoction of stacked thin Mexican cookies with Key lime pie filling between the cookies and piled on top then, strawberries on that.

Usually, the wife fixes BnG, eggs and sausage for breakfast when the family is all together. But, we've been barely subsisting on the desserts for breakfasts.

Not bad.

Laying here and feeling sorry for me sorry arse and irked that I'm laid up on a beautiful day, I was going through my mind as to the lumber I have on hand that I could build some hand planes with, using me awesome new book by David Finck. Nothing came to mind, then I dang near bolted upright with a memory of something I walk by every day in my shop. Some one gave me this small 12/4 slab a few years back, leaned it up against my table saw and forgot about it! I was reading my book when this slab popped into my head. Bad thing is, when I bolted upright I reactivated the pain in my neck! But not too much I couldn't go out and snap a shot of my future hand planes!

As I recall the fellow told me it was Apple. Unless you all have a better notion of what this species is.

I spent some of my weekend working on two more of these spice carousels.  This is one I made for my wife.  The two I am making now are for my son, and a friend.  The body is soft maple, and the base is walnut.  The holes are 2" diameter, slanted back so the spice bottles don't spin off when the carousel is spun on the lazy susan  on the bottom.  The two I am making have mahogany bases.Spice Carousel.jpg

I tired Lew, just couldn't stay there, limping around my garage right now. I was going stir crazy.
