John Morris Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworker's! This is your official Monday wake up call and all around nosy inquiry regarding your activities over the weekend and what you may have planned for the week ahead. We like to see what you have built, working on, or are ready to launch into. So go ahead and show us your work, and tell us what's in the oven. Even if your shop was or is dead for the time being, we'd also like to know just overall how the heck are ya. How's life, how's family, how are you? Updates on current happenings As many of you know our winners have been chosen for the Homes for Our Troops raffle fundraiser and the prizes have already shipped, and our lucky recipients have already reported receiving them. I'd like to thank all the participants who donated to Homes for Our Troops in exchange for raffle entries, we raised over $1100.00 with more than 550 ticket purchases. These funds were donated directly to Homes for Our Troops, as usual with these fund raisers, we do not handle any of the transactions, nor the funds, all donations are entered directly to Homes for Our Troops. We only provide the excitement! Wiki progress Also, our Patriot Woodwiki is coming to be a reality soon. I have been working feverishly on article creation templates for our editors and collaborators (you) to make it easy to populate a blank page, with pre-made templates of information. All you need to do is provide the content! If you'd like to see our wiki in progress, please click on the navigation tab above titled "Wiki". There are some research projects I started already to spur activity when we do open our wiki. New members And of course, we'd like to welcome once again all our new members here to The Patriot Woodworker, we are happy to have you aboard, and we are excited to share, learn, teach, and work through this wonderful experience called woodworking! Have a wonderful week ahead folks, and don't forget to let us know what you been working on! HandyDan Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Lightening struck one of my sheds a couple weeks ago but it has been too hot to worry with it. It is supposed to be cooler this week so I guess I should repair it. I will have to remove the siding from at least two sides and replace two corners and the bad siding pieces. Quote
Harry Brink Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 That would be scary, Dan. Glad no body was hurt! Quote
Gene Howe Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Wow, Dan. That's a nasty gash. Coulda been worse, though. Good luck with the repairs. We decided to cut the cord for phones and TV. The process was simple for the phone and we're now totally cellular. But, the TV is another matter. We are so far out in the sticks that cable isn't available and antennae are worthless, so we had Dish. Now we have internet TV. But live TV requires a special system. Spent most of the weekend setting up the new system. The instructions that came with it assume a level of geekiness not possessed by this old man. Gotta make some calls today. Hopefully, the techie I get is a patient and compassionate soul who speaks English fluently. Quote
Steve Krumanaker Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 That's nasty looking Dan! Glad it wasn't more serious! Steve Quote
Steve Krumanaker Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Had a little kitchen repair job to deliver and install this morning. A local gift shop sells a few of my two piece tops and asked for some corian and spalted wood versions. I had several tops ready but not either of those so I'm prepping and gluing blanks and will turn them this afternoon unless I'm mowing. Grass thinks it's the first of June again after the rains last week. Steve Quote
Chips N Dust Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Cooling off for a few days (into the lower 90's), I am going to get back into the shop, build a jig and start on my rolling tool chest - a plan I modified from Shop Notes. Over the weekend, I was at the coast visiting my dad. About 30 degrees cooler than the records we set here in Medford on Thursday, Fri and Sat. Our bottom fishing trip was canceled due to a minus tide and 8' swells. Oh well, do not eat fish anyway. Quote
Fred Wilson Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Finally getting a little cooler weather here so I have a few outside jobs to complete. Then it's back to the shop to work on inventory. Three big shows to get ready for and inventory is really low. Handy, Have lightening rods on my shop and house to help stray lightening get to ground. So far, no hits. Gene - how's the satellite guru going? Always wondered how the satellite internet works and if it is reliable. What size antenna do you have to use? Plain ole round dish or parabolic? I'm outta here to go make sawdust Quote
Allen Worsham Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 No woodworking for me, which has been the norm for the past few months. My wife Tami is working through her recovery from having a "Total Hip Replacement Surgery" on August 10th. So I am kept busy keeping her happy and out of trouble. Fortunately she can't move too fast so I can keep up for the most part, but she is sneaky and wanders off now and then. So my time has been spent keeping Momma happy and entertained. We love to get out and walk around places, but since her hip pain got real bad in June I have been doing the walking while pushing her in the wheelchair. We have a great time together and the exercise is good for me. On Friday we took a trip down to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, CA which is about 50 miles south of us. We have carried annual passes for the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for about 25 years now and it is a great place to hang out and watch the critters. steven newman 1 Quote

We use an Amazon Fire Stick. Got a lot more content than through Dish or DirecTV. But its all recorded. To get live TV we needed an additional device. Which I'm now in the process of programming. It's NOT going well. I'm not young enough. Fred Wilson and steven newman 2 Quote

steven newman Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 I played hookie from the shop today, too nice a day outside. Had some shopping to do, too. Beyond that, just a lazy bum today. Way better than last Monday was... Quote
John Moody Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 Got the rafters in place on the shop expansion. More in Part 7 in the shop forum. Fred Wilson, Stick486, steven newman and 1 other 4 Quote
Ron Altier Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 Dan, you sure got a lot of damage to repair. When I moved to Colorado, I had no idea about the hail. Big hail, frequent hail. We have been hit with hail as big as baseballs, I saw one as big as a grapefruit. We had a lot of damage, but not near as much as areas within a half mile of us. Window shattered, shutters destroyed and windshields busted. I had a small garden with plants about to bloom. They were destroyed. Initiated. Not just this year, but 3 of the last 5 years. My friends have had roof replaced 3 times in 10 years at a cost near 20k for all the total damage each time. Decks, furniture, screens, windows, fences are all included in that 20k amount. Home insurance has gone up dramatically and some have quit covering homes here. Quote

And besides that, we can watch on OUR time schedule. The only show we watch LIVE is FOX news. Oh, yes, programming a new device - ask your kids. steven newman and John Moody 2 Quote
