August 20, 20169 yr I didn't want to take away from Ron's ornament thread so I started this one. I make and give away about 60 ornaments each year. This years ornaments have a plastic insert which is what Ron was showing some of. My inserts are pieces cut from the tall shiny tubes that were once part of some trophies I took apart. A few years ago I made finials for some glass bulbs that are sold everywhere for Christmas trees. The tops are large because they had to go over the tube that are on top of those bulbs. John said he wanted to see pictures when I said I have used something other than wood in ornaments. So here they are.
August 20, 20169 yr Dan that last batch makes it look like you took your yoyo and put the plastic in the center. Do you ever give up and throw stuff away? I wish I had half the imagination you do. Good job
August 20, 20169 yr Ok, just absolutely beautiful, wow and wow! What I love is the idea of using the store bought bulbs, I am not a good turner, but for some reason seeing you place the store bought bulbs in the ornament, just made the process seem more reachable for me with my current turning skills. Although, turning those delicate finials looks pretty daunting I must say. The other ornaments that are all wood, man those are nice, can you imagine an entire tree decorated with only wooden ornaments like this? Along with the colored tiny lights, placed on a Victorian shaped Noble Fir, and other hand made crafts, wow, what a site. Beautiful work Dan, thanks for sharing, and inspiring this newbie wood turner.
