August 17, 20169 yr Regular visitors to our site will have noticed we have had a plethora of new members lately! The Wood Turners forum has been blessed with a new member- super talented turner- Steve Krumanaker http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/profile/4333-steve-krumanaker/ . Steve posted images of some of his turnings at - http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/topic/17161-some-of-my-recent-turnings/ . Steve’s pieces combine several aspects of woodworking- wood turning, zentangle art, and pyrography. At first glance, I thought his vases were segmented turnings but he created the effects using special designs and wood burning. Steve illustrates his talents on his YouTube Channel- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC48jUuQ_rLe85ulKP8gCsmA and demonstrates creating one of his pieces in this video- We will continue to spotlight new turners here on “Wednesday’s…..” as our membership grows. If you are a new (or old) member, post your work so we can brag about your accomplishments! Sometime back, I found the following video on YouTube. The author creates a pencil holder from a plywood glue-up. The process he uses is the bandsaw. I believe it could be done easier on the lathe and additional shaping could be incorporated into the piece- Safe Turning!
August 18, 20169 yr Lew I guess I didn't really understand exactly what the "wisdom for woodturners" posts were really about before I opened this thread. I was a little stunned when I read your post and have to say I am very flattered, very. Thank you. As for the pencil holder video I found it very interesting and agree with that it would be a great lathe project. With that said, I really admire the guys ingenuity in creating that jig and shaping the form that way. Thanks for sharing it. Steve
August 18, 20169 yr Great Wed topic Lew! Steve, Lew submits a Wed topic every week, it's in his contract with us here. As does John Moody, he submits his Fridays topic, I submit a Mondays topic, and Ron Dudelston is working on a weekly topic of his own to debut soon. Soon all our forum hosts will have one day assigned to them for a special weekly topic. It has been tradition around here since John Moody started his a few years back. I love Lews topics, he has the inside scoop on turning and he always brings in new tech and awesome stories and videos about turners. Great job Lew.
August 18, 20169 yr By the way Steve, congrats for making Lew's weekly topic, and the star of the show at that you are!
